Freezer section of Amana Side-by-Side ASD2620HRB is running, but not freezing. What could cause this?
I have cleaned the condenser coils. Power source is good. Unit is level. Inside the freezer feels cool, but is no longer freezing. When I turn the temperature dial to off, I can hear the unit kick off and then when I turn the dial up to cool, I can hear it kick back on. Also, how can I tell if the refrigerator side is cooling enough that milk/food won't spoil? I tried using a digital thermometer, but it won't read below 65 degrees F.

What is running? The important motor is the compressor - the one that works with the refrigerant to supply cooling. If it is not running you can check the start relay/capacitor. If they are good, make sure that electricity is reaching the motor windings. If the thermostat stays open, the compressor will not be activated.
If compressor is running and if there is ice buildup on the evaporator behind the back panel, then the self defrost mechanism is not working - could be you have an open heater coil. If you completely defrost the refrig for a day and then plug back in, if it works fine, then it is definitely ice buildup which serves as an insulator and prevents cold air from reaching the refrigerator portion.
HI.intermitent faults r allways abit problematic .but run through some basics ok?1-after defrosted freezer works ok?2-how long for.if ok then all u can do is change defrost timer and t/stat one at the time or together.clean condensig unit thoroughly.good luck.ali
Hello, Their are a couple things that could be causing that.
The conderser coils under the kickplate below the doors is clogged with dust. Remove the kickplate and check/clean using a refrigerator coil brush that could be purchased from your local hardware store (Lowe's HomeDepot Ace hardware)
The condenser fan motor behind the refrig., behind the lower service plate directly next to the compressor isn't running and needs to be replaced.
Good luck,i hope this helps you to get your refrig back to cold, Gene
Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

freezing problem is ( overrun time ) caused by lint or dirty condenser / clean the coils and ck to see if the fan underneath is going . fan may be going to slow and need replacing . good fan and clean cond. will save power and run the unit less . hope this will help mm
You have a sealed system problem. There is either a small leak or a restriction somewhere in the tubing. This isn't something you could've caused so don't worry about that. Unfortunately this isn't something you can fix yourself either. You require a certified refrigeration technician to fix this problem.
1.Dirty condenser coils where heat is transfered to the room air. 2.Frost build-up on back wall of freezer section which would indicate a defrost system problem.
Have you ever cleaned the condenser coil in the back or under the bottom of the refrigerator. Dirty coil will cause this problem, also make sure the little fan motor in the back is working if it stops you can get the same condition. If not these two conditions you may be starting to have a refrigerant problem.
The unit gets low on refrigerant and just dosen't cool properly.
