SOURCE: Document Jam in Dell 1600n

The Automatic Document Feed (ADF) has a white rubber pad that wears out. You can find it by opening the ADF cover and removing the roller bar. Under that is the white rubber pad. Pinch the sides together and the assembley comes out. Contact Dell for the replacement. You may also refer to the Dell 1600n Owners Manual for instructions.

SOURCE: Dell 1600n printer driver for Windows 2003 Server

I had a similar problem deploying these printers, however i found using the XP drivers in 2003 does work fine. Not sure why dell doesnt have an installer for this printer in 2003 server, but here you go.

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/printer/R165289.EXE

extract that file, note its destination directory. do not attempt to run the setup.exe, it will fail saying your operating system is not supported.

instead navigate to (if you didnt change the path) C:DelldriversR165289p0nPrinterPCLWINXP

this folder contains the driver you need to install manually.

one stange thing about these lexmark based network printers is the need to select 'local printer' during install, uncheck automatically search for my device, and then create a new TCP/IP port. Use the IP address provided by the network configuration print out you can access on the front panel of the printer. now just make sure to select 'lexmark network card' as the type of network interface. it should now ask you for your printer type, click have disk, and point to the driver folder mentioned earlier.

hope this helps. thanks alot dell.

SOURCE: Top rollers on Dell 1710n won't pick up paper

clean or repalce the pickup rollers, there's either too much paper dust on them causing them to slip on the paper, or there's not enough tred on them like a tire again, causing them to slip, and be sure that you aren't overfilling the tray

SOURCE: dell 1600N printer paper jam

More than likely you need a new pick up roller. It is located at the top of the tray area in the printer. You will see a black rubber roller with white nylon clips on both sides. You can confirm if it is the problem by removing and washing it with soap and water, then clipping it back in and running a few copies.

My dell mfp 1600n will not feed paper without jamming in the auto feeder...what is wrong?

if the problem is with the paper from tray, suspect the rubber tires on the pick rollers are bad. You can remove them and flip them inside out and reinstall

Printer does not move page fully thru rollers.

Rollers may look good but it sounds like they need to be replaced. You will need the separation and pick up rollers.

MAINTENANCE KIT

There is no maintenance kit per sey. To do a maintenance on these, you only need the fuser, and the 2 rollers in the ADF.
Total cost for all the parts is about $90
I've done these kits a number of times, and they run like new after. I've never had to change the pickup rollers in the drawer yet.

DELL 1600N

If it makes verticle lines only when using the document feeder it is most likely a dirty glass strip over the scanner light bar. If it makes verticle lines in all modes (printing, flat bed scanning/copying, receiving faxes) it could be the fuser or a dirty glass over the laser where ever the laser images to a drum roller (usually a larger green roller). It is possible that this green drum roller is inside the toner - if so - replacing the toner cartridge could fix it. Maybe you could try an old used toner to see of the problem changes - if so - it is very likely that a new toner would fix your print quality issue.

Dell Laser MPF 1600n WON'T PRINT

Two causes:

1. Worn out roller
<or>
2. Spring-loaded tray not engaging when placed into printer

1. The roller will try to "grab" the paper when the job starts. If it becomes too worn, it will slip and not grab anything. One fix is to apply a small amount of moisture to the u-shaped rubber roller.
Other option is to wrap a rubber band around it if you can.

2. Check to see if tray spring works properly. There is a small white knob on left side of tray. Push paper in tray down all the way until it clicks. Engage knob on side and paper should spring upwards. If this does not happen, the roller will not be able to engage the paper and it will simply click as it tries in vain.
