How do i replace a dlp chip

If you read the various forums offering solutions, you'll see customers being given quotes of $600 and upwards for solving the white spot syndrome or replacing the DMD DLP chip. Fortunately, there are companies offering the offering the DLP chip for under $230 if you want to fix it.

Thats a very coomon problem which is caused by a failed DLP chip. The mirrors get stuck and thats what causes the white spots they will keep multiplying untill the entire screen is filled. Likely you either forgot to reattach your color wheel ribbon connector, or have it on upside down. It's the tiny ribbon cable behind your circuit board that will come off as you pull the board away from the DLP chip.

Replace the DLP chip at cost between $160-$300 for the part and about two hours of your own time to do it.

If the spots are rectangular then pixel failure is mostly the problem

DLP/mirror chip is going bad. A common problem on Sammy TVs after 2-3 years. Chip is user replaceable (try samsungparts.com or ebay) for about $150-200. Sammy was (last year) repairing the DLP White Spot problem for free. You MUST talk to ECR (executive customer service) to even think about getting that consideration--forget the standard CS people. Don't know if they are still covering this out of warranty in 2010.

If you get White or black dots all over the screen (DMD symptom)
If you get a pixilated picture (DMD Board)
