Look at what time the defrost timer is set to. It may just be as simple as resetting the time or you may need to replace it .

SOURCE: Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator, freezer doesn't work, refrigerator works

Unless specifically made for use in a garage most units won't work properly. The owners manual should say what the temp range for proper operation is (usually 55F is the low range). This is because the refrigerator section doesn't need to be "cooling" to maintain 37F if the temps on the outside are below 55F. These things are made to work in a 70F room and will not work properly if under 55F. Stupid thing thinks it's cold enough so it will never turn on, the refer section will stay cold/cool due to outside temps but since the compressor never runs the freezer will just be the same temp as the refer section (at best). Sorry, but in order for a freezer or refrigerator to work in an unheated space it must have the temp control device controling the freezer section NOT the fresh food section. In other words, that model will not work in a garage unless the temps are above 55F always.

SOURCE: Freezer works fine...refrigerator section

Have you noticed more frost in the freezer than usual? It sounds like you may have moisture building up and freezing around evaporator fan. The fan blade hitting ice will cause the buzzing until it stops it completely or the evaporator clogs with frost and blocks airflow. If you have frost on food in freezer, check the door seals and make sure nothing is keeping doors from closing completely if you release them about 6" from cabinet.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite refrigerator stops cooling - Relay keeps cycling

The compressor is locked up. Basically it is stuck. You can pick up at the local appliance parts store a hard start relay, Home Depot ,Lowes, or or those guys wont have it. Its not too expensive and is worth trying because your only other option is you need to replace the compressor. The part is called a kick start or hard start, the guy at the parts store will know what you are talking about. It is simple to connect and has the wiring directions on it. Sometimes this is all it takes. I have been able to get a stuck compressor to go by placing a short 2x4 on it and whack it with a hammer a few times. This is only a temporary fix though, as it will eventually lock up again, but emergency situation this saved the food. If the fridge has a fan back there make sure it works too, it may have been the original cause. Good luck.

It has 4 wires going to it. good luck.

Hi there

Sounds like bad news I'm afraid.

The freezer evaporator fan runs constantly until the freezer is at temperature.
The chiller fan only runs until the fridge is cold.

If the defrost timer is operating correctly it should only go on defrost about every 6 hours

It is more likely to be the temperature controller

You will need toget a new one.

Finally, I turned the thermostat off for an hours and back on, then it works again with pull it away from the wall. what is it problem?

Kenmore top freezer fridge does not cool but freezer works

Turned refrigerator off for 8 hours, let the frost melt and the fan in the freezer worked again. The compressor now only has a soft clunk when it goes off.

Freezer not freezing

How old is the unit? Does it seem to have air circulating in freezer? Is the temp in the refrigerator side cold enough? One common thing is for the defrost heater to stop working which causes the freezer to ice up and stop circulating air. If you can put all items in a cooler and unplug the unit for several hours leaving the freezer door open. Plug it back in and see if it starts blowing frost again. That would indicate a bad defrost system. It can be several things but most common are the heating elements. If the defrost timer stops working you get the same results. If this does not produce positive results then it could be a weak compressor or gas leak. Best have a repairman check it or get a new one if it is the compressor.
