SOURCE: Lost entry door key, need to rekey kwikset deadbolt

Unfortunatley you need to have the key to remove the cylinder. You can take it to a locksmith that can pick" it to remove the cylinder and make you a key but it may be more cost effective to replace it.

Sorry not to be mre help.

SOURCE: I need extra keys for my Kwikset handleset. Had

Hi,
The problem you are having has nothing to do with your lock. Modern key cutting machines are so automated that they do a very poor job in key duplication. I suggest that you find an old hardware store that has an older key machine. Or possibly, it might be cheaper to simply replace the lock set. A new Kwikset keyed entry sells for about $40.00 for a lever handle. Remember to have extra keys cut at the store when you purchase the lock...so you can check the duplicates in the store. I do this at Home Depot regularly. They have a new machine, but with the lock right there, they can manage to cut some duplicates after a few bad ones.

Hope This Helps,

SOURCE: We purchased a door from

this problem is caused mostly by the latch it self failing ( starting to fail ). if you remove the handle(s) from the door I am sure that you will find that the plastic part of the latch has cracked, bound or broken all together. this could have been caused when whoever at the factory put the door hardware on the door and force fit the latch through the hole.
also -- if you do not see any visible issues with the latch - try and take the handle part that has the shaft on it and insert it thru the latch body and turn up and down on the handle and look to see if you can see the latch binding in anyway ( on the top or bottom of the hole ).
there is also a chance that the backset is set wrong on the latch -- this again was set wrong by the person that installed it at the factory,, and it is very common.
if this is a broken latch issue -- if you take the broken latch to 'Home Depo' and show this to them I am sure that they will be able to replace it for you. if they turn you away - just go to your local locksmith shop and show them what you need,, they should have lots of them ( I know we do at our shop and we sell them for $8.50 ).
if you have any other questions about this issue please feel free to aks me,,, I see these locks every day and I will try my best to walk you thru any steps.

SOURCE: have a kwikset bathroom door

Wiggle the backset a few times while pulling on one side or the other. Certain brans have a catch and will opnly release when this is done.

Re-assemble a kwikset front door lever and knob type latch

Since the exterior side of the lock only has a keypad and no lever, I'm not sure what you mean by the "outside lever". Here is a clear, easy to follow video of the installation. Please carefully review each aspect of your installation against it to see if you can spot an installation mistake:

It won't close, so it won't start, the latch doesn't click shut.

Seems to be a mechanical fault as only if the door closes the safety switch will latch on which will initiate the program to move forward.
What is require is to push the release many times , use a de-greasing spray into the door latch mechanism. if this wont work you might need to reassemble the door latch mechanism.- if mechanically minded.

Is your car door set up to override the lock mechanism if the door handle is pulled?

If it is not set to override, is your door still locked when you use the handle?

If the door is unlocked, is your door latch in the open position when you test the handle?

If open, close the door latch (not the door, just the latch) and pull the handle to see if this releases.

If it doesn't, check to see if all the rods connecting to the latch mechanism and the handles are all in working order

There is NOT a mechanical connection to the outside door handles on the front doors. There is an electronic "door popping solenoid" This is a electronic problem. I think there was a recall on this.
