Press and hold down the power button for approximately 20 seconds until you hear the tomtom 'drums' then release the button will do a hard reset

Make sure you have the latest version of TomTom HOME ? ... or re-install it. Then try to connect (the GPS) again and see if you still have the same problem.
Worst case, try contacting TomTom Support online via email or by phone for help.

I would read the manual if it doesn't state it in it you should not it should be a lithium battery and if it is it wont hurt to charge it again they should be capable of running all the time charged so if you can run it all the time it won't hurt to charge it before hand.

I was also unable to get TomTom Home to recognise my VIA 160. I called TomTom Support and was advised that there was a programming issue with TomTom Home and it was being addressed. They advised I would receive an email notifying me when the Home Application had been updated to allow connection with the VIA 160. At 21 February, I still have not heard anything back from TomTom and have not checked to see if an updated version of Home is available. If there is, hopefully the new version will work with VIA 160.. JT

Any help with this as mine (530) is doing the exact same?

I recently had a bit of success with TomTom. My TomTom Rider 1 did not charge on the bike cradle, there is a known problem with the early cradles. TomTom have developed a TomTom Rider 1 replacement cradle (updated) and if you push hard they will wend you one in the post free of charge.
