It is possible that the safety thermostat on the boiler has tripped. Reset safety thermostat and turn machine on. If reset is not tripped then it could be the element or the pressure stat are damaged.

SOURCE: Astra Mega II <----Need help!

The left grouphead sounds like a different problem than the right group head. For the left grouphead, I would start by replacing the group electro-valve. With hard water, this can cause the valve to remain in the closed position even though the water pump is running.

For the right group head, I would want to see this happen. Usually, if the gaskets haven't been replaced in a while (if you are busy, your 'while' may be quicker than others), I would evaluate the condition of the rubber gasket. I would also look at whether you are tamping too much espresso grounds into the portafilter. This can cause a similar symptom as a bad gasket.

SOURCE: espresso extraction time

You will need to reprogram the computer. To do this, it is relatively simple. take your grounds and tamp into your portafilter (I usually start with a double). make sure that you tamp it correctly.

Then, hold down the start/stop button until you see the lights flashing on the panel (if you want to program both groupheads at the same time, then hit the start/stop button on the other side as well.) Then with your portafilter inserted in the grouphead, hit the button that you would like to represent your double shot. you should see a water stream about the width of a cooked piece of spaghetti. After around 18 seconds to 22 seconds, you should have your shot levels filled. then hit the button that represents your 'double' shot to stop it. then hit the start/stop button. You will see the start stop button flash a couple times and then turn off.

That should do it. remember, that the preferred timeframe for a shot of espresso is 18-22 seconds. Your setting on the coffee grinder would then need to be set to make sure your getting a full shot in that amount of time.

Good luck

SOURCE: where to get it repaired?????

Try Mr. Espresso in Oakland, CA www.mrespresso.com. While they don't typically supply Astra, I believe they are familiar with the brand and can refer you to a technician if they can't service it themselves. Astra will also service their own machines, but you would probably have to ship it to their shop in LA.

SOURCE: Astra Mega IIC startup issues

Go ahead and keep the sensor probe connected. Open up the steam wands before turning the machine on the let the air bleed off as it fills. The element should not turn on if the water level is too low and the circuit is working properly. As for the groups pumping water, try hitting the Brew Stop buttons. If that doesn't work, something may be wired wrong, or your group solenoids may be stuck.

Astra mega I semiautomatic - where is heat exchanger

I have the sam question. As I look at the parts diagram and price list it isn't listed. So my guess is that it's built in to the boiler. Which is bad news since I suspect a crack in the heat exchanger and would like to replace it. But if I have to replace the boiler that's $1000

The machine is blowing the main fuse, we think we need a new element and a side water gauge, but would like to talk about it. Thankyou

The easiest way to check the element is to remove electrical wires and then check for resistance on the element. Also you might want to check the pressure stat(its the black box with wires leading to the element and tube to the boiler).

Boiler pressure (steamer pressure) is at 0. Usually, when it goes down it comes back up in few minutes but not today. Also, the water coming out for our espresso shots is not as hot as it should be and our...

Problem is either the element, the pressure stat or the reset thermostat on the boiler left side if the model is equipped with one, has tripped, possibly because the machine is low on water in the boiler or the contacts for the pressure stat are damaged or dirty. First I would check the water level in the boiler then remove the left side panel and check the reset switch and press it in, then turn on machine to see if it heats up. If you do not have a reset switch on the machine then check the element and pressure stat to make sure they are working properly, do a resistance test.

My Astra Mega II Espresso Machine doesn't seem to be pumping water in when i turn it on it makes a distict click after a second

There is either 1 of 2 things going on:
1 - The machine does not need water or
2 - The inlet solenoid is damaged.

If the boiler is full the machine will not call for water, to test this you could remove the top panel and disconnect the level probe, then turn the machine on, if it calls for water then the boiler was full and it did not need anymore. If it does not call for water then the inlet solenoid is possible damaged. To Check the inlet solenoid which is on the bottom right of your machine, you can do a resistance check on the coil, to make sure it is working, and or loosen the output of the solenoid to see if water is flowing when it is calling for water.

My astra mega III makes a grinding sound when the pump kicks on

If it does that every time the pump is on then it is possible that the pump needs to be repaired or it is set too high for pressure possible past 10 bar, if it does it only when running a specific grouphead then your solenoid needs to be replaced.

Whistling sound

The Astras have a vacuum relief valve, usually located on the boiler top. It looks sort of like a cap, with a pin or rod sticking up out of the middle, possibly with a ring through the end. While the machine is cold, you might try working that back and forth to see if it is stuck or not. If it is stuck, get it replaced.
