I did this job myself - you need to be comfortable removing a/c power and make sure you make tight hose re-connects. But honestly, I'm surprised this model is still running for you - this design was a total defect with the control boards and touch panel always failing because of condensate/water on the touch panel and in the control board. If those are also failing on your unit - dump the thing and buy a new one before investing money and time in the pump repair.

Why is my Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDS01DJSS0 pump making loud humming noise? Pump motor suddenly began making loud humming noise when running. (not so bad when draining).

Some dishwashers have a soft food disposal inside. If something is hung up, it will grind or hum for a long time. If this is the problem, it will eventually go away.

How do you change a drain pump on this machine?

Hello Jim;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You need to post a model number so I can see what you have. The model number is located either on the side of the dishwasher door or the face of the dishwasher when you open the door.

The most common problem with dishwashers draining is that you are plugged up. You need to disassemble the dishwasher internal components first. Then, disconnect the drain hose from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal. Clean this until you can see light through it. If you can not see light after cleaning, replace the hose.
With a tooth brush, clean the inside of the drain hose connection on the garbage disposal.

Go into the following website. Put in your model number and you will get diagrams and part numbers of your dishwasher.

The drain pump may be plugged up?

On some dishwashers you can access the pump from the lower bottom panel. On others you have to pull the whole dishwasher out.

GSD4020Z07BB won't drain. replaced pump and piston nut

When you replaced the pump I am assuming you replaced the whole assembly that pumps water for the wash and drain. See item 310 in this diagram.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/GE-Parts/Dishwasher-Parts/Model-GSD4020Z07BB/0432/0130000/G0040034/00003?blt=15&prst=&shdMod=

If the dishwasher goes through the wash cycle then it was unlikely the thing that was faulty. The pump is shared by both the wash and drain cycle. It is likely the impeller (item 429) is not getting the pulse to change direction so that it draws water from the drain sump to the drain hose rather then to the wash arms as it does in wash cycle. The solenoid connection might be faulty or the controller output is not there.

Fridgidare top loader won't drain - no clog, new pump and timer

Yes...I would have mentioned lid switches to you. Dryer Doors and Washer lid switches can become a problem. They are constantly used and in some cases deposits enter the switches and effect the operation. Slamming a lid or door also damages switches and contacts. Glad you found the problem.

Belt, Water Pump

Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

Drain Impeller

The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher, through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher won't drain, the pump and motor assembly might be defective. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer

If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug will need to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.

Drain Hose

If the dishwasher won't drain the drain hose might be clogged. Remove the drain hose from both the dishwasher and the sink drain to clean it out. The most common place for an obstruction is at the garbage disposer.

Check Valve

If the dishwasher won't drain the check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is located in or at the outlet of the pump that the drain hose attaches to. Sometimes the check valve is accessed from the inside of the unit depending on the model.

Check Ball

If the dishwasher won't drain the check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

Help- fridgidare dishwasher will not empty

Hello Monica Ward - Are you referrin that the dishwasher will not drain?

If so, when was the last time the filter was cleaned? Most dishwashers have a glass trap located in the center of the filter designed to collect pieces of broken glass, straws, pits, etc. You should simply be able to grasp the handle, lift out, empty and place it back. Is the unit making a grinding noise? If it is, then contact a professional because you may possibly have a defective drain motor.

Viking dishwaser turns on, but I can tell that it is not cycling.

Check the following to address this issue.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).
