SOURCE: I have a Canon G12,

You might have gotten some dirt or other debris in the lens. Other times it can be from a drop or a bump of the lens. Since you have a Canon, you can use this site: www.camerasandparts.com They are the place if you need help with a Powershot, that's all they deal with. If you need to have it repaired, it runs $89 through them for parts, labor and shipping back included, plus they service up the whole camera which is one of the best things about their service packages. They do outstanding work on the Canons, that's where lots of people go for help with the Powershots. All the best with the problem.

SOURCE: My G12 lens says error

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Try this it may work. Turn on the camera. While still on remove the battery. Leave for 30 secs and reinstall the battery while still in on mode. Switch off and switch on. This may work to reset.

Lens is out and will not move. When I turn the camera on the message on a black screen reads " Lens Error Will Shut Down Automatically. Restart camera". Help needed!

Let discharge battery, charge it and try,
Connect it to your computer and try
If still get the error I see no way to solve this problem through a Q/A forum. Your camera is defective and you should consult a repair service about repair cost. You should evaluate if worth to invest repairing it or might be a better option to sell it for "parts" to repair other cameras and buy a new one.

Canon G12 does not connect to USB cable, gives error E41

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Suddenly I touch my G12 s lens and iam afraid how to clean it?

Two methods: 1. Camera lens fluid and a microfiber cloth. Lightly brush away any loose dirt. Lightly dampen the cloth and gently remove the smudge. 2. Purchase a "lenspen" and keep it handy....lasts for years. Just Google "lenspen" and you will find places to order it.

Error code #0005 what does it mean? and possible causes?

Found the cause of the error, basically the other end is having trouble most likely poor line conditions.

##005 [ TX ] Failed G12 reception during G2 transmission.
A. Cause: Other party cannot properly receive the G12 signals due to poor line conditions.
Solution: Have the other party boost their transmission level so they can properly receive G12 signal.
B. Cause: Other party confused by echo and does not send G12.
Solution: Have the other party lower their transmission level so they will not receive echo signals.
