Take out your bobbin case and examine it for nicks, scratches and or rough spots. If the problem is not too bad it may be possible to buff out the bad spot with an emery stick or emery cloth. If that isn't possible or it makes too much noise after you buff it you will have to replace it. Look especially along the edges and underneath.

The directions are very vague about how to thread the bottom bobbin. I have no idea how this is to be done or how the needle will pick it up. Help Please!

you don't thread the bobbin as such
wind sufficient thread on to the bobbin (use the rewind section of the machine )
place the bobbin in the bobbin carrier in such a manner that the thread unwinds anticlockwise
take the thread and pull it around the edge of the bobbin holder until you reach the slot in the holder
pull the thread down that slot and under the flat spring plate at the bottom of the slot
That plate controls the tension of the bottom thread
pull out about 5" of thread and while holding the thread put the bobbin holder and the bobbin into the machine making sure that it goes right in and clicks in place ( turn it to achieve the click
The needle should be fully up for this procedure
now thread the needle and hold the end of the thread while you hand turn the machine in the sewing direction
the needle will go down and if not on the first time will on the second time pull up the bobbin thread
pull that bobbin thread up and place it along with the needle thread under the foot plate and out the back comment if that doesn't work as there may be a bigger fault that can be fixed

Why does the thread break on my sewing machine?

The top thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle
8. Try a different spool or cone of thread
Bobbin thread breaks
1. There is a right way & wrong way to insert the bobbin in the case --when you insert the bobbin in if it doesn't stitch correctly turn the bobbin over see if that helps or bobbin case is not inserted correctly
2. Lint has collected in the bobbin holder
3. The bobbin is damaged & doesn't turn smoothly
4. Lower thread tension is two tight

Bobbin will not pick up needle

when you insert the bobbin into the bobbin case and insert into machine, make sure there is a long tail coming out of the bobbin.
Thread machine correctly and when trying to "pick-up" the bobbin thread, make sure you are spinning the flywheel the right direction.

if the sewing machine has a top loading bobbin, you may have to have the sewing machine checked to see if there is something wrong with the bobbin case or the hook and hook race.
I suggest try a new needle--one for the fabric being sewed
also try another bobbin
rethread the sewing machine top and bobbin, using every thread guide.

I was sewing with elna machine and ran out of thread. This caused the thread to ball up underneath and "jam" the machine. I cleared it out and rethreaded it, but now the top thread doesn't catch the bobbin...

it is possible that the sewing machine has a timing problem, but check to see if the needle is inserted correctly into the needle holder
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case if the machine has a top loading bobbin
if the machine has a side or front loading bobbin also make sure the bobbin case is inserted correctly into the machine.
and also make sure the top thread has not come off the thread take up lever

I threaded it all right i have cheacked it many times but the thread in the bobbin keeps getting jammed

Many causes for this problem. Most common are;
  1. Top thread not inserted correctly.(must keep thread tight.)
  2. Debris and loose thread around the bobbin cage. All it takes is a tiny piece of thread in the right place.
  3. Bobbin inserted backwards in the "bobbin holder". When installed correctly, There is some resistance when you pull on the thread, but the bobbin will spin without trying to pop out of the "bobbin holder".

Threading up a bobbin in a singer 560 sewing machine

I'm guessing it's probably the same as mine (8280). This is what the manual says: "Hold the bobbin case with one hand, insert the bobbin so that the thread runs in a clockwise direction. Pull the thread through the **** and under the finger. Hold the bobbin case by the hinged latch and insert into the shuttle." It's hard to describe, but if you've sewn before, it should come back quickly. To be more specific, hold the bobbin case in your left hand, insert the bobbin so the thread is coming up from underneath, pull thread through the **** and into the part where the hole is. If you slide the thread around, it will fit into the slot in there. Pull the latch out and insert it into the shuttle.

Hope this helps.
