You can\'t run it on 220, but if you take only one of the 220 black wires and attach it to the black on the compressor you are feeding it 110. The problem will be that you have no neutral wire so you\'d have to use the ground of the 220 lead (green) as the neutral on the compressor (white). It\'ll run fine but it\'s not the right way and it can be a hazard. The white wire is neutral which is basically a ground wire from the electric company, the green is the ground wire in your building and it\'s there for safety so using it to power things is dangerous and probably illegal. I\'ve done it in a pinch, but wouldn\'t do it if at all avoidable. You may be able to get a transformer but you\'re probably better off running a 110 circuit or getting a 220 compressor.

Im hooking my pool pump up to a 220 and I dont know what wires go where. On the motor there is a A and B and a L1 and L2. What do I put my brown wire on and what does the white one go on. Can u help me...

There should be a diagram on the side of the motor showing you where to put the brown and white for 110/220 volt operation. Most new motors of this size are shipped strapped for 220v. The two hot wires will go to L1 and L2 and it doesn't matter which wire goes to which lug. For 220v you will usually have 2 black or 2 red wires and a green ground wire. If it is 110v supply, you will usually have a white and a black wire, and a green for ground. Hope this helps. Since you said you are hooking to 220v the brown and white should be on the correct lugs if this is a new motor.

I have a marathon 3hp motor wired for 220 on a campbell hausfield air compressor. It has a white, black, and green wire coming out of the motor. I am using a no. 12 wire with ground. how do i wire it up to...

Hi! sims146
The Green wire from the electric motor is ground. Check the compressor motor, make sure it is wired for 220-230 Volts. If it has a white wire it could be wired 120 Volts. There should be voltage and current ratings on the motor plate. I always double check these connections. At 230 Volts this motor should be 17 Amps full Load. A 25-30 amp fuses are required to protect this motor circuit. Otherwise up to a 42.5 Amp Inverse Time Delay Breaker could be used.
The welder circuit should have 230 Volts between the Red and Black wires. The white wire is Nutral / Ground. Hopefully this is a 30 to 40 Amp circuit. The Four prong air compressor outlet, White is Neutral, Black and Red 230 Volts, Gray should be ground. Please check with Voltmeter, as some times people swap colors.

Wiring a 220v single phase motor and capacitor

Black and white are usually power. an ohmmeter will confirm. Brown are for capacitors. There is almost always a diagram on the motor someplace. Eric

Need to install power cord to terminals on 220 AC motor

Ok, read the data plate on the motor. Does it have a zero with a line straight through it. That means it's single phase. Also the plate may list two different voltages 110/220ac correct. On the inside of the panel of the box where the cord connects it will have a two diagrams. One marked low voltage, the other high voltage. You want 220ac so follow the high voltage diagram. Since it's single phase the green wire will go to a green screw in the box. The black wire from your cord is positive and the white negitive (actually neutral but shown on diagrams as negitive). The wire coming out of the motor will have numbers on it's casing. Follow the connection points on the diagram. Don't worry if you hook them backwards the motor just won't turn. It won't hurt anything.

New air compressor motor to 220 vlt?

if you have a 220 v service 1 phase meanig there is 220 volts across your existing two power feeds and your motor only has 3 wires there is usually a low voltage and high voltage schematic on the motor if you are wired as per this then your green is standard ground and black and white are your hot wire or line voltage let me know if you have any other questions

I am running new 220 lines for my dryer and stove I would like to see a wiring diagram for hooking the new wire into the fuse panel. The existing service was gas.thanks

on a 220 set-up the green wire goes to the neutral bar where the white wires from the 110 breakers are connected. the two remaing wires, black and white go to the double breaker you will be using for power. it doesn't matter which wire goes to either breaker. at the power outlet that the dryer is the green wire goes to the ground (:-) the right hand side of this simple diagram, and it doesn't matter which of the two remaining wires hook up to the left side of the outlet (black and white)
