New starter, new battery - fully charged, engine stops on the compression stroke.
Hydraulic Valves? or adjustable valves? most of the Briggs that don't have hydraulic Valves need to be adjusted every season
and are the cause of hard starting to stopping on the compression stroke.youtube has some great vids on how to quickly adjust the valves on Briggs engines with a star wrench and socket wrench and feeler gauge.you just need to make sure its on TDC top dead center compression stroke. hydraulic valves are not adjustable set at factory and the Craftsman Kohler series has hydraulic valves.
Make sure carb is not dumping gasoline into cylinder causing a hydraulic lock
SOURCE: The new battery on my Craftsman LT1000 18hp riding mower will not charge. Anyone have any ideas?
