Transmission wont shift

Go for the manual they are easier ti repair.

run the fault codes and look for a servo/solenoid problem for 1-2 gears.

Check the fluid level. You may want to consider having the transmission flushed. (I recommend BG Products flush system.) Properly flushing the trans removes any varnish the may have built up causing erratic behavior.

Sounds like either the shift linkage is out of adjustment or damage to the shifting forks of the transmission.

Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.

sounds like trans has gone bad, last service of filter and fluid? clogged screen or low/burnt fluid would effest but if clunking sounds like trans is shot

The transmission needs to have the filter and fluid replaced.

Yes, it could very well be a bad transmission.
