1) Disconnect battery
2) Disconnect electrical wires from starter
3) Remove bolts that attach starter flange to bell housing. Sometimes you will need a long extension to get a socket on the back one. Hint - Remove the hard to get bolt first. That way it's easier to support the starter while you remove the other bolts.
Gotta love old Chevys. Thet were easy to work on.

93 flstc...starter sounds like its dragging...slow turning...

Use an amp meter on the positive cable to see how much ampere is being used. Should be between 150-250 amps. Make sure all connections are tight and clean. Is it easy to rotate the engine by hand? Could have internal problems. Possible bad starter.

Why wont Kymco MXU 250 start? just a loud high pitched noise is heard

Geez dont keep spending money if your not sure. It sounds like your starter is not throwing in far enough to engage with the ring gear. Please do your hip pocket a favor and get an auto technician to check it before buying a new starter as well. You can also remove the starter and check the gear to make sure its not worn as some are plastic.

The starter for my ford 460 stays running after gear is disengaged only have power to solenoid when key is in start position when the truck is shut off one can hear the starter whining down after shutting...

There is a spring in the starter that should cause it to disengage after the electricity is removed. Double check that the electricity is removed form the starter side of the solenoid, cause that is the easiest thing to check first. Then take the starter off and have it checked for free at your local auto store. If it seems OK to them it may be the starter is not the right one for the bell housing. If it sticks in to far, the starter gear may be stuck partly in the flywheel.

How do I install a new starter in a 93 Dodge Ram van B-250 8 cyl.

Park van so that you can safely access the starter. I use ramps under front wheels and put it in park and set the parking brakes. Disconnect positive battery cable at battery, disconnect starter battery cable and ignition wires from starter solenoid (remember terminal locations as these will attach to new starter solenoid). Remove old starter. Replace with new starter. Re-attach wiring in reverse order.

Starter drags???

it sounds like the new starter is faulty , I would suggest having it checked by a service shop or a starter rebuild shop, most parts supply stores dont charge for this test but you will have to remove the starter from the truck.
