Why won't my Canon PowerShot A560 digital camera turn on or open? Why won't my lens go out? I've put all new batteries in but to no avail. Can you help?
Most often when this happens, it is, as you\'ve stated, a battery, but it might also be a corroded battery connection. You can use an eraser, or if its physically obvious, try a tiny piece of fine sandpaper, but use it gently, only to clean off corrosion. It may also be that your camera was dropped and a soldered circuit connection damaged, or it might have been exposed to penetration of moisture. The best thing you can do is 1. Give it time, say a month, to dry out, and 2. Send it in for an examination by Canon, being sure you tell them you\'ll need a repair estimate to ensure it is cost effective. Most often with a hand-held point-and-shoot it is not. Will it start up when you connect to your computer?

Manually rotating sensor rotor inside camera and cleaning gear fixed the Canon "lens error" for me.
I placed instructions with photo's here: http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/

The following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

I have same problem. I turn on the camera you hear it trying to come on, shows display pic for like 3 seconds and then shuts down. If I could get the lens to retract I am sure the camera would work.
