GE Profile Refrigerator door latch broken

When you say latch can you tell me the part number of the latch you say that you need replaced? Here is a link to the parts you are describing HERE

Go to www.partselect.com put your model number in, click on the diagram. For the door. Should be part #PS1016086

IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE DOING IT GET SOMEONE ELSE. YOU WILL PROBABLE NEED TO REMOVE THE DOOR WHICH IS HEAVY AND AWKWARD.

This is a VERY common problem, and the fix can sometimes involve replacing the door.

AFAIK, the top latch can only be replaced with the entire door gasket assembly, but it's not too difficult to do.

A google search on 'GE refrigerator latch' will find you thousands of other (former) GE customers who have had this problem.

If you close any refrig door " fast " , the other will pop open . These magnetic door gaskets , are designed for lighter holding power now , than they used to be , due to children getting caught inside . I would suggest lowering the front legs slightly , so that when you let go of the door , it will close slowly on its own .

The main control board could solve the display problem . May also solve the cooling problem , but would need to know , if frost build up on back wall inside freezer , are both fans working (freezer and compressor cooling fan) , is the compressor running ,are the coils clean in back of refrig ? Unsure about a "door latch" . The freezer door ,rides on glides , and the magnetic gasket should hold it closed .

Wow, so you dropped some money into it, eh? I would take a look at the damper door asslb(DIFFUSER). located at the very top left of your refrigerator section in back. It has a motorized door that opens and close's and it may be stuck open. More than likely it is broken and needs to be replaced. GOODLUCK!!!!

FYI: All your cold air in your refrigerator comes from your freezer!
