SOURCE: Wireless internet connection

You haven't specified if the host computer is able to access the internet. Ip Address confict can be one of the reasons why the laptop isnt able to connect and we can have a series of reasons why we have this IP Address conflict - 1) There is no wireless encryption defined. So, we have neighbors connecting to the wireless network causing IP Address conflicts. 2) The laptop is not able to renew the IP Address after the lease expires. This can mostly be resolved by restarting the computer and in certain cases flusing the TCP/IP stack. 3) There is a static IP Address assigned to the laptop in the router's DHCP range which is conflicting with the host computer. I would suggest you may initiate a chat with me or anyone else who has expertise in routers to get this successfully resolved. That would definitely save your time. Good luck

SOURCE: HP dv1000 laptop and internal wireless modem

Although you have internal wireless, you are capable of attaching an external wireless device. For example, you could attached a D-Link WUA-1340 USB Wireless G adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=477), or, if you have a PCI port, you can use a Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook adapter (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513196&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1319686869B07). Either device with any brand will work just like your internal wireless. In fact, because you chose to use an external device, you may get a better wireless signal. Because internal wireless devices are inside the computer, it is more difficult to received a signal than with an external device.

Are you sure that your PC has a built in wireless function and not just a regular modem ??

If you just have a modem you will need to purchase a USB wireless interface the link below will take you to one perfectly compatible with your router.

I purchased a SBG901 and have connected 2 MAC pc's wireless - 1 HP printer and 1 Compag laptop, I have one more pc which is running Vista on a HP Pavilion dv5 and visited the HP website to update

It might not be anything your doing wrong, the wireless portion of the card may have just gone bad. you could check this out by reconnecting your old router back up to verify it works or doesn't. If it doesn't work your wireless in your laptop went bad presuming that the wireless was not deactivated on the laptop. if it does work the Vista Driver may be incompatible with the new router, you may be able to hook up both routers at the same time which would allow you to keep using your HP system.

I have a Belkin wireless G router- 2.4Ghz-802.11g I have had for years. A few days ago it stopped connecting to the internet. I can connect my modem directly to my laptop and get on the internet so...

Start by checking for "link" between the modem and wireless router. This is usually a tiny light built into the network port itself on each piece of network equipment. It should be solidly on if the link is good. If it isn't on, check that you have the network cables plugged in good and that the cables or connectors are not broken or damaged. If you have another network cable, try it instead of the one you were using.

If these steps don't help, you can try fully resetting your wireless router to factory defaults, then reconfiguring it again. Consult the manual for your brand and model of wireless router for this. It may also have additional troubleshooting steps.

There is a chance your wireless router has simply gone bad. I've seen new Belkin wireless routers for as little as $29, so you may want to go that route, rather than spending too much time trying to troubleshoot the one you have.

The wireless network is being picked up by the laptops in the house, but there is no internet connection between the modem and the router. MY router is a Belkin G Wireless

if you connect the computer directly to the modem, does it work?
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Laptop cannot pick up wireless from modem

Is your Wireless router integrated in the modem? If it is not, try to unplug the router for a few minutes then restore the power and see if it fixes the problem. If it is integrateddo the same for the modem. Try to connect using the laptop. If it does not work use the laptop to scan for new wireless locations and make sure you see the home location. If you do not your wireless router is not working, If so select the home location and enter any Web Encryption Protection and try to connect. If your wireless router is not working, make sure the preference for the router has the wireless function turned on. To do this use ether the software which you received with the router/modem or internet explorer to access the IP address of the router. If your router is configured for wireless use it may be a bad wireless router.

How do I hook my wireless usb netopia chip in order to sign on the internet

You ned to contact an Internet Service Provider to determine if your USB wireless adapter is compatible with their service.
Read this info for an idea on how to connect to the Internet :-

There several ways to connect to the Internet.
1. You can use a cable or DSL modem and connect this modem to the laptop with a LAN cable.
2. You can use a wireless router with a cable or DSL modem and connect to the wireless router using a wireless card (a PCMCIA wireless card or the laptop may have a built-in wireless card). This wireless card can also be used in WiFi locations such as the airport, McDonalds and Starbucks etc.
3. You can use an USB G3 wireless adapter. This type of device uses the G3 mobile network and may not give you Internet coverage in some locations.
All these require an Internet Service Provider and the costs vary widely depending upon the various plans they offer. Check the ISP in your area and compare the plans and cost of their plans and pick the one that best suits your needs.

I own a HP DV9000 my wireless quit working

Check the Device Manager to see if the Wireless LAN device is working and enabled. If not reinstall the Wireless LAN driver.
If the Wireless LAN is OK and enabled then sometimes when you bootup the Wireless LAN card doesn't get an IP address from the wireless router. This usually has a red X on the wireless connection icon and sometime you get an error message "Limited or no connection".
To get the router to issue the wireless LAN card with a new IP address, righr click on the Wireless icon and click on Repair.
You can also power down the router wait 15secs and power up the router again then reboot the computer.
If it still doesn't work you could have a faulty wireless card, see it your friendly computer shop can test it for you.

Wireless driver can not read my wireless router

If you're having trouble with a router, it most likely has nothing to do with your laptop at all. If there is a problem with your laptop's wireless adapter, you may be able to find updated wireless drivers through the laptop manufacturer.

Please keep in mind that a wireless router and wireless adapter are completely different. The router is external and relays the signal from your modem (the internet) to your connected PCs. The adapter is in your laptop and sends/receives information from wireless routers such as yours.
