found the problem after reading a post on this site. Last thing I used was DVD player so disconnected DVD Sony player, followed the factory reset instructions and now the volume works normally! It was the DVD player. Thank you so much for the info and lead. The problem is DVD not TV,
I have the Samsung Sound Bar WS1R model. I tried all of the Samsung codes; TV, audio receiver, and audio amplifier. The DVD code 3918 worked for my Verizon FiOS remote. Program it to your AUX button and it will control the volume while your other buttons; channel, menu, etc work the set top box. I hope it works for you too!
I finally found a fix to this! YAY. I thought I might have to return the TV. I have the Phillips 42PFL5603D, but should work for other models.
On the TV press menu
picture settings---picture---dynamic contrast (turn off) AND active control, turn off
If you have Comcast Moto box:
on the Cable box go menu--->setup--->cablebox set up---RF BYbass set to ON If you have a non-Comcast Moto Box, I'm sure there is an RF bypass setting in the menu. You'll just have to look for it. Another fix was close saying to only turn of the active control, but it took all 3 of these for it to work consistently. The latter let it work for all of 30 seconds.
Go on the Verizon website and request a new remote, the Verizon P265 Remote model. It will have all the newest firmware and it should have the code. I know this because I had a TCL 32" TV and the code wasn't on my old Philips RC 1445302 model. TV and new remote are "talking" just fine now. Verizon won't even want the old one back.
I read in another forum where Vizio sometimes uses Vidtech codes. I got 0205 to work on my new Vizio V037L with my Verizon FiOS remote (Phillips RC144).
