Can anyone advise ? I can select a program and the machine will start and complete the first part of the program but instead of the dial moving on to the next part of the program it freezes. I have to turn off the power button move the dial to stop wait a few minutes and the re press the power button. I can then turn off the machine and move it to the next section of the program and then turn it back on. It means I have to stand in front of the washing machine for hours at a time just to do a simple wash. Is anyone familiar with this fault and can advise how to fix it.

i am a recently retired engineer of 20 years, but this sounds like (based on the info given) a heater element fault, after the machine fills up and agitates a few times the heater should start, check the heater for open circuit, replace if needed, of course it just could be a wire off? if i have helped rate me please

This might be Lid cover open protection. There is a small magnet at the edge of the lid cover, housed in some sort of a catch.
If the plastic housing cracked, the magnet might have dropped into the washing drum. To overcome this, place a magnet on the position where the plastic catch will contact the washer when the lid is close.
