tyr a factory reset you will be suprised how little effort it takes and how much it would cost at a phone shop. Here are the instructions:
1.When the phone is off press and hold the power, volume and home button.
2. keep holding until the samsung turn on thingy with your phone name and model comes up, Keep holding, The title may come up twice but keep holding.
3.when the screen comes up, YOU WILL KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT. Release the middle and power button but still hold the volume one down. This bit is tricky so you may have to turn it off and restart a couple of times.
4.Use the volume button to scroll through the choices and the home button to select the option.
5. Click on factory reset and then the only option that says yes. BE WARNED THIS WILL CLEAR ALL DATA, PHONE NUMBERS (UNLESS SAVED TO SIM) APPS, MEMO'S AND ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF.

However, you don't need to take out the battery to re-power on the phone. Just hold the power button for a longer time (about 10 seconds). The screen will light up and the device will reboot.
