What you decsribed can be from 3 different failures. 1) this unit is a CRT based TV and may need a simple degaussing procedure (remove magnetism from the CRT) 2) the electronics that syncronizes the color to the black and white component of the video is not working correctly (burst circuit) which would require a trained technician to repair. 3) the mask of the CRT has come lose which would require the replacement of the CRT.

You did not mention if this symptom is on all channel and inputs. If not then the cause could be external. The 3 causes above would require a technician to fix however if the cause is external you can address that issue yourself. Simply remove all connections , cable, satellite, DVD, VCR, etc and turn on the TV use a known good video audio source to determine if the symptom is still veiwable. If not then the TV is most likely not the problem.

hello,if your touch screen does not work as supposed,it could be as a result of two things,
1.jammed application,this could only be fixed with the use of an internet flash by an authorized mobile phone repair man,this in most cases could be the cause.
2.bad screen,if this occurs,you will have to change the faulty screen and replace it with a new one,after that is done you will have your phone working as supposed.

Sony sets have several protective circuits that blank the screen if something happens that might damage the picture tube. One of the more common causes is trouble in the vertical output circuit. Given the age of your TV (the XBR models have been around a while), this might also be a symptom of a picture tube starting to fail. Most of these sets have circuitry (called AKB) that adjusts the color drive signals to the picture tube to keep them balanced. If one of the colors is enough out of range the screen will blank. It might be the tube itself, or failure of some part in that AKB circuit. The set might also have defective parts in the input switching or video processing stages.

Unfortunately, I can't suggest any place you might look if you want to try repairing this on your own. This kind of trouble usually needs to be diagnosed and repaired by a professional TV technician who has the service information to track it down.

The capacitors at the vertical stage must be faulty resulting in the above symptoms.

Here is a possible repair for your problem. Remember that this is not deffinet.
This does sound like a difficult problem, it might be better to let a repair shop handel it.


Poor contrast and picture disappears in Vivid and Pro screen modes.
Problem was resolved by replacing C210. The capacitor was breaking down under
operation. Important note: capacitors C257 and C248 are in parallel with C210 and similar
failure of any
one of these three capacitors could cause an identical symptom.

The main cause of this problem is cracked solder joints on the vertical output IC. Re-flowing the solder should take care of it. Sometimes a capacitor (normally against the heat sink containing the vertical output) will cause this, but, it usually has a different symptom. The price of repair will normally run, depending on where you live, $100.00 to $130.00. It's a small job and is done quickly. Hope this helps.
