When I pull the button hole lever all the way down on my Singer Advance 7422, my machine just beeps at me. If I pull it up just a little, it will sew but when it bumps one of the levers where it is supposed to, it just keeps stitching in a straight line. Help!!!

The button hole lever is not suppose to bump anything, it suppose to stay stationary against the button hole foot, you might want to have it checked

SOURCE: Singer 7462 buttonholer

generally most sewing problems are due to sticking parts because of non usage as =you have stated or because the tension has been not set right. what I suggest is that you take the time to do some cleaning of the machine like what bis pointed out in your manual use a light weight mineral oil to wipe the moving parts with, but not too much. also adjust the tension of the foot so there is pressure on the material as to move it while sewing. after all the cleaning and adjusting rethread the bobbin and make sure it is seated properly also rethread the need and make sure the thread moves freely from the spool. this should do the trick. please rate this

SOURCE: Button Hole Beeping on 7462

Yes frustrating issue this one. I discovered that you need to pull down the retractable button hole guide found behind the needle threader (not visible when you are sitting at the machine).

Hope this helps, happy sewing!!!

I have a Singer Confidence sewing machine trying to get button hole attchment to work, I get beeping, nothing moves, selected the button hole pattern, attached the foot what missing

Did you pull down the sizing lever on the sewing machine? Look at your manual, it will show you the lever that has to be pulled down for buttonholes. If, you have misplaced your manual, you can go on Singer's website www.singerco.com and under support you can download your FREE manual. Also go on www.youtube.com, put in Singer Confidence sewing machine and you will see some wonderful videos for your machine use. You have a very nice machine, btw..

I want to do a button hole on my singer sewing machine model 7422 i've got the manual and i've followed what it say's but it only beeps when i pressed the pedal to start sewing i followed the instruction...

I do not have a fancy Brother machine. From what I understand, you just need to do a zig-zag stitch around the "rectangle" that will become the button hole.
You could forego whatever instructions they provide and just set your stitch width as appropriate and then move the stitch type to a thin (close together stitching) zig-zag, just shy of "satin stitch" (which is just sewing back and forth all in the same place, and therefore--useful for embroidery).
Sometimes easy does it can be the ONLY way to get things done. :) Sorry I don't know more about your specific issue but maybe the old school way will help.

Is your button hole lever down? I had the same problem after sewing a button hole and couldn't figure out why I couldn't return to normal sewing. Once I raised the button hole lever the machine worked again.

Insert the button into the special button hole foot. put the foot on the machine.Pull down the button hole lever( It's near the presser foot lever towards the back of the machine). Place your needle where you want the button hole to be. Select the button hole pattern and press on the pedal. Watch for the end of the button hole.

Beeping Sewing Machine

Your problem is most certainly with the buttonhole switch. Firstly: Look if the buttonhole lever, left back of machine, is push up in position. The beeping sound is a warning message. Secondly Remove the light cover, left of the machine, loosen back screw and remove left hand screw completely. Check for a small black electric switch, follow the brown and green elecrtic wire, just back of the light. If you push the BH lever up and down the switch finger should also move up and down. If it stays down, the machine will not work and give a beeping sound. If the switch finger is stuck, push it up with the BH in top position. Hope this will help you

Buttonhole instructions needed for Singer 7422 Advance

These are the exact instructions from the Manual. 1. Select one of buttonhole patterns.
2. Replace the presser foot with the buttonhole foot. (Install presser foot with little red mark towards the front)
3. Insert the button into the buttonhole foot. (the part located in the back crescent shaped)
4. Lower the buttonhole lever (to the left of the needle) so that it drops down vertically between the stoppers A and B.
5. Carefully mark the position of buttonhole on your garment.
6. Place the fabric under the foot. Pull out the bobbin thread underneath the fabric to a length of about 4 inches to the rear.
7. Align the buttonhole mark on the fabric with the mark on the buttonhole foot, and then lower the buttonhole foot.
8. While holding the top thread, start the machine.
*Sewing will be completed automatically.
9. When sewing is finished, use a buttonhole opener to open up the frabric in the center of the buttonhole. Be careful not to cut anyt of the seam thread.
I hope this helps.

One step button Hole V for Singer Sewing Machine

Hi, I had the same problem, but I finally found my manual. The solution is that you have to use the presser foot for buttonholes but the most important part is that you have to lower the buttonholer lever. It is located right next to the needle to the left. It is a metal lever with a little square white plastic end. You need to pull that down in order the the buttonhole feature to work. My button was too big for the buttonhole presser foot, so I had to use the regular presser foot, but hit the buttonhole lever with my had to make it go up or down.
