How do I factory restart on my hp notebook pc you meant restore/recover the OS to new day 1 state,.

I bought it used and want to make it like new

SMART measures physical attributes of the hard drive. Reformatting won't help that. A bad SMART status alone doesn't mean your drive is failing, but combined with the delayed writing failures and the slow speed, I'd replace it ASAP.

yes, and is covered in you manual. at HP.com


HP 15 is not a full model number, stated so....
my guess not HP 15 ENVY. but to progress here, I will guess.
over 200 models with that short name exists.

you left out all those facts in the model.
but all modern HP , you CAN do this,

power on, and hammer f11, this runs the magic RECOVERY
that restores the OS to day 1, new, all data you created gone.
as the book says, and is true.
but if the HDD is bad (or molested or upgraded from other OS)
it ill fail.

here. but there are 85 models of F15 in this one class of PC.

the PC is not dead, has F1 screen in bios
called information screen.
power on, and hammer esc, key and see small menu (bios)
and click F1, behold the INFO page
the 1st 3 lines there, tell you model and p/n of the PC. all are very important but not serial numbers here, only hp can use serials

  • Click Start c01403500.gifand enter Recovery in the search field. Select Recovery Manager from the list when it becomes available. Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.Alternately, click Start c01403500.gif, All Programs , Recovery Manager , and then Recovery Manager . Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.
  • Click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next . The PC will restart and reopen the recovery manager.Alternately, if Advanced options is disabled, click Next , and then System Recovery . The PC will restart.
  • When the PC restarts, select the System recovery option and click Next .
  • If prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore program, click No , and then click Next .
  • When prompted, select the Back up your files first (recommended) option, and then click Next . Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • When prompted to Recover without backing up your files , please STOP before clicking Next .WARNING:This is the final opportunity to change your mind about recovering the PC and deleting all the files and programs. Once you click Next , the restore process cannot be stopped
  • If you are satisfied that you want to begin the recover process, click Next . The PC immediately begins formatting the hard drive and destroying all data.

    Today I tried restore my computer to a previous state using HP recovery manager. After the restoring process ended a sign appeared saying that the restoring couldn't take place due to some 0xc000022 error....

    no OS stated by you, Windows XP,Vista, 7,8 or 10, ?
    is the OS same as new?/?

    HP tells me it came with W7 64bit, tell me its not W10 now.




    the F11 key, that way, you need to tell how you did that.
    what method (there is not just one method)
    the F11 key full recover takes a good HDD,
    we do the hdd tests first.
    or its all just a waste of time.
    DV7 is old. so what do techs do old.
    1: new coin cell, is yours 10 years old, and hopeless.....??????
    2: main battery out do not do what you did with the Main huge bad battery installed use only the AC power pack to run now.
    3: vents clean if the PC overheats how can it reInstall OS ? cant.

    4; we test the HDD next using linux. (free if you have blank CD or Thumbdrive. do the smart tests then the full drive test.

    5: ok the HDD is bad, new HDD and buy new OS yours is gone.
    6:ok HDD was good , but F11 is messed up only.
    if F11 is messed up that means the HDD was slammed.
    that means (alien OS installed or using wrong media, not from HP)
    If someone damaged the HP C:/recovery partition , then F11 is doomed. for sure.

    last. lets say the OS is gone,or HDD bad or replaced and you bought a new OS install disk, say W7
    then what,?
    well the HP drivers is what. or w7 will not have them all .

    Restore the PC to original condition with the HP Recovery Manager If the computer cannot open to the Windows desktop, follow the steps below to use the f11 key to launch the HP Recovery Manager and return your notebook to its original factory condition.
    1. When the notebook is powered on, press the wireless button to turn ON the wireless switch.
    2. Turn the power off and on to restart the computer.
    3. Press the f11 key to launch the HP Recovery Manager. NOTE: If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, use the personal recovery discs to recover the hard drive to its original condition.
    4. When the Welcome to HP Recovery Manager windows displays, click Next .
    5. When prompted to perform a Microsoft System Restore , select No , and then click Next .
    6. When prompted to perform a System Recovery , select Yes , and then click Next .
    7. When prompted to Backup Files , select the desired option.
    8. When prompted to perform a Recover your computer to original factory condition , select Next and allow the system recovery process to complete.

    How do i recover my laptop after losing Hp restore plus cd?

    if the computer has in built recovery then you can restore the computer to factory setting.as you restart the computer stat tapping f10 if there is recovery t will start automatically.In case this do not work then contact hp they will send you new restore cd.

    If the laptop didn't come with restore CD's then chances are that there is a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that you need to access to recover it back to factory state.
    Restart the PC and press ALT+F10 to get into the recovery mode and restore the laptop, you can also try empowering technology, eRecovery software to restore the machine.

    Factory restory hp pavilion dv 1000

    If your OEM is original from manufacture, and this option was installed. Restart PC, at the HP intro screen type "f11" 4 times, choose recovery, make shure you choose "restore to manufature settings" gl hope this works for you.

    Factory settings

    I find that your notebook is shipped with Operating System disk and Application and Driver recovery disk.

    The steps to reinstall the OS using the OS disk are available in the link provided below :

    Reinstalling the OS using Recovery manager if your Notebook is shipped with one.

    1. Click Start.
    2. Select "All Programs".
    3. Select the "System Recovery" option.
    4. Select the "PC Recovery" option.
    5. This will open a new window with the options "Microsoft system restore" and "PC Recovery".
    6. Select the "PC Recovery" option and Click next.
    7. Now you see the Windows XP LOGO with Please wait...... message
    8. Welcome to PC Recovery screen will appear Click OK
    9. Click Next.
    10.Then you can see the option " The PC Recovery was sucessfully completed Click Restart to restart the PC or Click Turn off to turn off the Notebook"
    11. Click Restart.

    Steps to Recover the Notebook from a set of Recovery Disks:

    1. As soon as you boot the Notebook with the recovery Disks we can see the following 3 options:

    i) Click R for Standard PC Recovery options
    ii) Press 'F' to format the Hard Drive and reinstall the original factory settings (All data will be lost)

    iii) Press Q to quit this menu

    2. Press F.
    3. Press Y.
    4. Welcome to PC Recovery window will appear Click OK
    5. The recovery process will be started and the process will prompt to insert the next recovery disk. Please insert the next recovery disk when prompted.
    6. Please insert the recovery disk whenever prompted for and click oK.
    7. The message "The PC Recovery is complete sucessfull" will appear.
    8. Click Restart to restart the Notebook or Click Turn off to turn off the Notebook.

    This will complete the recover process using the set of recovery disks
