Remove the switch and detach at the harness connector. If the bike starts now you have bypasses it. If it doesn't start you will need to make a jumper wire and connect that to the harness where the switch used to plug in. Which method will work depends on if it is set up to be normally open or normally closed to run. One of these two methods will work for you though.

What would cause a 1999 nighthawk 250cc cbx not to start after changing sparkplugs ?

Make sure all the letters and numbers on the plugs are exactly the same some plugs numbers and letters vary but still work, the way they are different is charge and heat settings some bikes work some dont, also make sure you use a torque wrench when tightening your plugs u can never be safe enough!

Your gear switch is bad, also check your clutch. It might not fully release or engage. Also check the clutch cable at the steering.

try adjusting the clutch cable ,tighten it up a bit .

You can't just unplug the kickstand switch, you have to put a jumper wire in making it think the switch is closed.

some of these bikes came with a safety switch on the kickstand so that if it is down the bike wouldnt start check to see if it has one and then to see if it is stuck.
