I have a HP Paviliondv5-1150us notebook Entertainment PC operating Vista. It worked Ok for the first couple of weeks. We installed the service pack and it began acting up. It will no longer stay connected to our HP printer, stopped recognizing USB ports, constantly goes into sleep mode and won't come out and the task manager rarely shuts down a nonresponsive program. We have re-imaged the computer and it only solved the USB port issue. Do I have a lemon or are these probelms common with these HP computers. Any suggestions on how to fix?
If needed you can reboot the computer tapping f8 when it comes up asking to start in safe mode click safe mode with networking and see how it acts and if needed goto start control panel programs and features and in the left column select installed updates and go down to the microsoft section find the service pack that was installed and delete it.
then afterwards restart the notebook and see how it responds back in regular windows after removing the service pack.
It could be a problem with the update. You could have used system restore to go back to before you installed the update. Re-imaging probably cancelled that. I would check for virus' before going any further. Download a program called malwarebytes (free version), install-update and scan. If nothing comes up try the system restore or uninstall the service pack. You can always reinstall it again later.
