My disk tray won't read any disk just saying "open tray"

Try cleaning the lens. You can get lens cleaners for CD/DVD players.

If the player skips, make sure that the DVD disc is not dirty or scratched..Use the cleaner disk buy it from R. Shack.
If the tray won't open or close properly, check the belt for dirt or wear. Then check the tray for misalignment. If needed, remove, clean, lubricate, and reinstall the tray following the instructions in the owner's manual.

Try opening your disk tray and cleaning the lens with a tissue and all of the drive from dust. If it still won't read you may have to buy a new optical drive as your current one has broken.

The main problem might be a big problem with the disk tray. There might be an faulty wire that has lost connection and if your disk wont event turn on, there might be a problem with the power supply that supplies the cd tray. If the disk opens and closes but doesnt read and wont say tray is in and keeps saying open tray, there might be a small fracture on some of the wires or there is something wrong with the motherboard of the xbox 360. The best way is to buy the warrenty now and send it to the xbox 360.

If you've tried cleaning the Laser with a Lens Cleaner Disk or directly with Lens Cleaner Fluid and a QTip without any improvement then the Laser is Failing.

It takes less power to read some DVDs than others and a lot less power to read an Audio CD. The Laser will continue to deteriorate until it won't play anything.

Most likley, either your disk or dvd drive is dirty. Try a dvd cleaner to clean the drive and a cd/dvd cleaning cloth for the disk. also try turning off the console and unplugging the power cord for about 60 seconds or so and then restart and retry.

Your lens is dirty, very common and is considered routine maintenance.

3 ways to fix this.

1. Buy a CD cleaner, it is a cd that has little brushes on it that clean the lens as it spins. Can buy one for under $20

2. You will need a can of compressed air for electronics. Open up your cd tray and pull the power from your 360. Push the tray half way in and position the nozzle extender for the can of air right at the cd lens and give it a few blasts of air. It may take a few times to get the nozzle in the right place.

3. Disassemble your 360 (will void warranty) and take the DVD Drive out of it. After the drive is removed you can remove the cover to the drive and manually clean the lens. Put it all back together and you are back to playing games and reading disks.

This is normal behavior for it not being able to read the disk. A very common reason of not being able to read the disk is a dirty lens.

Buy a cheap cd cleaner, looks like a cd with brushes on it.

My preferred method is to use a can of compressed air and blow the dust off the lens while the tray is open and power unplugged.

This fault usually happens if the disc being read is not compatible with the player's firmware.
If discs are burnt from a computer, or copies, this can happen.
Does it do this with all DVD's?
Are you using commercial retail DVD's?
Otherwise something else is telling the player 'No Disk'.
Try a disc-based lens cleaner as laser may be grubby.
Or the laser diode could be defective.
