Hi, armature is for spark and you stator is only for charging the battery. Check for spark again after disconnecting the single small wire from the armature incase its a safety switch issue, regards Phil.
With your model and type number you can find many web sites that have parts lists and maybe some experts (many parts dealers are service centers) that can answer specific questions about your engine. Service manual from briggs are sold to the service centers /dealers and are/were large books covering many models (similar engines). Many briggs "general purpose" service manuals can be found on ebay and are very detailed and helpful ( prices vary). Suggest purchasing on ebay and then reselling after your project. Owners manuals are available from briggs at no cost however only give general information on lite service.
