Check to see if the return springs are still attached to the stationary post and the choke lever.

Automatic choke problems

Would you consider retrofitting a manual choke? Then you wouldn't have to rely on "automatic" stuff any more. Manual chokes are cheap & simple & reliable.

Automatic choke problems

Yes, spring may have broken or maybe it just needs adjustment. There is a high idle cam that makes the card idle higher when the choke is closed or partly closed.

My 1968 mustang wont idle when I lift my foot off the pedal. But it will idle when I step on to the pedal. What do I do?

If you look at the throttle linkage on the driver's side of the carb you will see that it should rest on a screw at idle. Turn that screw in a little should solve your problem.
If that doesn't fix it then you will have to adjust the mixture screws in front.

Where is the choke on a 4500 Toro reelmaster?

There is probably no choke, it is an automatic choke built into the start/stop lever. If it wont start
there is a need for a repair.

2nd use of chainsaw pp3516avx, it won't start, choke lever will not stay extended. I followed the instructions to start and nothing works

The choke system is connected to the half throttle position, if you lift the throttle trigger the choke pull will automatically return, whilst trying to start do not lift the throttle trigger, the starting procedure is, pump the primer bulb as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb, pull the choke pull fully out, this will switch the saw on and engage the half throttle, crank the engine until it fires once, do not continue to pull,it will actually not run on full choke, if you do continue to crank with the choke fully out, you will very quickly flood the engine, now push the choke fully in, now crank the engine until it fires up, lift the throttle trigger once, this will dissengage the half throttle, and it should now come down to idle.

1984 passat cl. the automatic choke runs too fast

the choke has 3 screws to adjust the unit, the choke itself will normaly be siezed inside at the age. With a warm engine, loosen the 3 screws and turn the choke untill the idle drops.

or as i did it-with a cold engine, remove the airffilter and with the 3 screws loose on the choke press the accelerator pedal just over half so the choke is engaged and the looking inside the filter housing adjust the choke flap by turning the choke housing until the flap is 3/4 closed and tighten slightly and start the car.Do remember to check your distributor timing whith a warm engine and make sure the sparkplugs and airfilter are okay as each upsets the other.

High Idle from start

Maybe the automatic choke needs a good cleaning and has gummed up over time and is possibly causing the choke to stick until the engine warms and loosens the part to function properly.
