Turn off the ps3. Try reseating the hard drive. Take the cables off and then hook them back up. After this turn the ps3 back on and see if the blinking red light goes away. If it doesn't then try another hard drive in the system. If the blinking light goes away then you know you have a bad hard drive. If the blinking light does not go away then you know either the power supply or main board is bad.

If the motherboard is defective, go to the store where you bougt your ps3 if you're still having warrantyon your ps3 else test if it is realy the main board that is defective, if so you're able to vind a new main board here, note that 60GB board is difrent from the one that is placed in 40 gb version and the 80 gb and slim are also different, each generation ps3 has a diferent board.
Als watch out for eurean versions of the board's they are also difrent from the ones from other regions.
Here is where they have a new board for sale: http://product.pelltechnology.com/Sony_Playstation_3_PS3_Motherboard_Replacement.asp

You havent provided many details.
Try to switch the playstation 3 OFF, by unplugging the power lead. Then replug in the lead after appox. 10 minutes and then push and hold the standby/on button until it beeps once at first and then again.
This should restore the device to its factory settings.
