Unfortunately, the code on the bottom of your laptop is for Windows (probably Windows 7) not Microsoft Office. New laptops usually come installed with a 30 day trial. You need to purchase the software to get a product key.

theres a possiblity that the MS ofice that you have is just a trail version and its already expired,thats the reason why its asking for a product key,you will need to buy the full version if you want to continure the service

if you bought the lappie new the product serial number should already have been activated. if you installed office yourself from a product that you bought then you need to enter the product key inside the box in order to use the product

If you have a trial version of MS Office Home and Student Edition already installed in your computer, you must buy a retail package of that same programe (MS Office Home and Student Edition) and language of the trial installed.
Then you can use the product key of the package you bought to convert your trial into a full version.
