Battery Stuck Inside Camera

Carefully drill a small hole (2-3mm diameter) into the visible end of the battery (drill as close to the flat edge as you can and in the middle to avoid the cells). Then swrew in a small screw - this should allow you to pull the battery out.

I had the same problem. I used a paperclip which I bent into a "L" shape. It almost looked like a dental tool. I slid it down the flat side of the battery, then turned it 90 deg. Pulled out with no problem.

The maintenance guy from work pulled it out using scissors and a letter opener sort of like plyers. The battery is ruined but the body of the camera is intact. YAY i'm ready to take tons of pics of Mickey Mouse & Friends this weekend

This procedure worked with a stuck battery of a Nikon Coolpix P510 and hopefully works with the Nikon D90 as well.
1st off, pull the tab/lever to allow the battery to be pushed out.
-with the use/aid of a thin metal/sturdy objects like a knife and long-nose-plier; carefully/gently wiggle the stuck battery upward/outward of the camera's battery compartment until it's exposed enough to pull it out with the plier.
Once pulled out/extracted; carefully examine the battery and the battery compartment and the springs that made it pop out whenever you replaced the battery. If there's corrosion/rust; clean the corrosion with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol; and dry them before replacing the battery with a new clean one.
The main causality of this is a swollen Lithium Ion batteries. Be careful though not to puncture them because they might explode.
This procedure will hopefully work with other cameras with Li-Ion battery packs.

I just had the same issue and ending up getting it with a strip of velcro!

BE SURE TO PULL ON THE GRAY PLASTIC LEVER THAT HOLD THE BATTERY IN PLACE WHENEVER YOU PULL ON THE BATTERY TO HELP LIFT IT OUT OF ITS HOLDING BOX.

Tried superglue a flat object to the exposed surface of the battery = didn't work. I used tweezers = didn't work. Super thin pliers to grip the battery plastic wrap and pull that out, the plastic came off in a strip, EXPOSING A METAL STRIP UNDERNEATH. Before touch the strip and maybe ruining the battery forever, I pull on the plastic cover to the left side and all accessible plastic wrap with pliers: plastic gets ripped and tore. Finally, I insert the flat tiny tip of a flat head for an eyeglasses screwdriver under the metal strip and it went under, lifting the metal strip up slightly. I lifted that metal strip up with the thin metal screwdriver, WHILE MY LEFT THUMP PRESSING THE GRAY PLASTIC LEVER THAT HOLD THE BATTERY IN PLACE, and with some resistant, the battery got pulled out.

Not sure if the battery is still working, but is was bent to begin with, thus got stuck in the first place so I won't be finding out if it will work in the future for fear of it getting stuck again.

I had the exact problem and was loosing my mind, but after several tries with nail files and the like I was able to wedge it out with some needle nose pliers. Grip the section between the curves and the back end and pull. It will take a few tries but it worked for me.

Hey there, i've got the same problem. the battery got stuck, i've just bought  a new d90. i have to use it on monday morning and tomorrow is sunday , so the service is closed. any other way to remove it? please help! thank you.

YES! using the eye glasses screwdriver and prying the battery or memory card is the best way no damage to either. My battery had ruptured inside the plastic cover and was swollen.
