HI Marc, working on a Allaire standing fan read to replace the capacitor, is that the one in the middle or the one screwed to the back of the switch?

Face down. Remove the plastic panel covering the sockets at the back. Remove the stand, 4 small black countersunk screws. Turn over and unclip the bottom panel. Unscrew the plastic piece across the computer under that panel. The escutcheon around the screen should now unclip. Unscrew ~8 screws around the edge holding the back to the metal-work. Carefully invert, face down, and lift off the back. The power supply is in the middle. Another bottom piece of metal may need to be unscrewed first. Remove the cover from the power supply. Four screws hold the PC board in the power supply box.
Two green 820 uf, 25 volt capacitors are likely to have bulged tops.
Replace them anyway. Reassemble after testing.

A short circuit in the power wiring would probably cause the fuse or breaker controlling the circuit to open. Make sure the AC outlet you're plugged in to is actually working. If so, there's an open circuit somewhere if no power is reaching the motor.

Have you checked the switch with an ohmmeter to make sure it's really working? Check the wiring from the switch to the motor. You can also make sure the motor windings aren't open with the ohmmeter. The motor may have burned out as they sometimes do.

Check for voltage right at the motor. If this is a brush-type motor, the brushes may be worn out. It may also be that the motor is getting voltage but has a bad starting capacitor. Most commercial equipment uses capacitor-start motors, and the capacitor is usually mounted in a bracket on the motor. You can test the cap with a meter that has capacitor checking; replace the cap if it measures outside of the tolerance marked.

Yes, you need to replace the capacitor located in the box where the switch is. I know it's been a while since your post, but if you open the box an look on ebay, the capacitor is about $5.

Remove the 4 screws holding the stand. Remove all the perimeter screws. Remove all the screws from the bottom speaker panel and the rest of the perimeter screws and the ground wire screws at each speaker. remove the screws on the surface of the back panel and you are in. The power supply is the large board in the middle. The bad capacitors are in the secondary and were C233, C234, and C236. I replaced these 3 capacitors and fixed this problem. They were 1-10v 1000uF and 2- 10v 3300uF electrolitic board mount capacitors. Easy to spot on the power board, the tops were bulged up. $5.54 later it works perfectly now.

replace the motor

I found the connectors corroded for both fans. The lower fan connector had one pin that was completely destroyed. I hard wired the wires together as a test and the unit is working perfect. Check the fan connectors by removing the two screws that hold the shelf in place and cafefully slide out fron the cooler. You will have to disconnect several connectors hidden in the right side of the shelf before you can completely remove it. Good Luck.

There should be a black round nut in front of the blades in the very center. It will have ribs on it so you can grab it. Turn it Counter clockwise, and it should unscrew.
Then you can remove the blade assembly and get to the back cage to tighen the screws.
This should take care of the problem.
Re assemble in reverse order.
