SOURCE: scooter shows

You will more than likely need a new speed pot but some are connected to the throttle pot as well so it could be that which is at fault. Could also be wiring or worst case, control box but this is unlikely.

Erratic throttle control

The speed pot and throttle pots do wear in time. These parts are readily available and are not too difficult to change. A service manual can be downloaded from the mnufacturer's website. It has detailed instructions and part numbers.

What makes a speed pot go bad on a celebrity x 3 wheel scooter?

Yup you got a code seven failure code, speed pot malfunction . What pots typically do is that they oxidise. This pot is a variable rersistor that opeates between 0 - 30k ohms. When tuning the pot it shoud ram up and down smoothly. To test for this
You may also need a VOM meter only $9

Disconnect batteries from the scooter. Simply attach the multimeter to the pots terminals, select correct ohms scale and watch the needle. Th needle when turning the pot should move gracefully up to 30k down to zero as the pot dial scooter speed increases. Failure is detected when the needle jumps around, the oxidation causes the pot to connect inteermitently. USE CRC CONTACT Cleaner to get the oxidation out of the pot. The potss are not sealed so there are little holes you can spray into. Use liberal of cleanner.

I HAVE A CELEBRITY DX SCOOTER, IT IS 4 YEARS OLD. I HAVE HAD NEW BATTERIES FITTED, BUT THIS LAST 3 MONTHS THE SCOOTER RUNS FROM NORMAL SPEED TO SLOW AND SLUGGISH THEN BACK TO NORMAL EVERY FEW MINUTES.CAN...

Hi John.
The problem could be a worn throttle pot ( wig wag ). Next time you are driving the scooter, try moving the ends of the speed lever slowly up and down, instead of in or out as you normally use it. If the throttle pot is worn, moving the lever this way will make the machine speed up or slow down.
Another cause might be a faulty battery lead connector or a faulty motor connector.
Good luck. Neil.

My Golden Companion II scooter had to be left out when it rained - I went camping - and it stopped running. Then, a little later, when it had thoroughly dried out, it ran sporadically. Now, it doesn't...

Hi. Most speed problems on scooters, can be the throttle pot ( wig wag ), or the motor brushes.
Also check all battery lead connectors, and the motor lead connectors.
While you are driving along, try moving the speed lever slightly up and down, not in and out as you normally do. If the speed changes, it is probably a faulty pot.
Do you have a high/low switch, or an indoor/outdoor switch that changes the speed? These sometimes cause speed changes. You can fit a new switch or by-pass the switch, and have it on high all the time.
Good luck. Neil.

My mother is using this mobility scooter and at the moment when the speed control is at maximum. It feels like the vehicle goes faster and slower, while the trouble is full pressed.

Hi. A faulty speed control pot ( wig wag ) will cause this problem.
While you are driving along on a smooth surface, move the end of the lever carefully up and down, not in and out as you normally do. Doing this will help to see if there is a problem with the pot, it will cause the speed to vary or change.
Can sometimes be caused by stuck or worn motor brushes.
Good luck. Neil.

Golden Companion Scooter not moving - diagnosed via owner manual

Hi. Many scooters will display this fault code if the potentiometer is not exactlly centred when you turn on the key. The pot is not always faulty. Some scooters also have a smaller additional pot to controll the speed. If this pot is faulty it will cause the same fault code. Any other switches such as indoor/ outdoor switches. I have had a few machines fitted with curtis controllers where the fault is in the controller.
Check the wiring and plugs and connectors.
Good luck. Neil.

Revo 3 wheel: will not hold constant speed; batteries recently replaced but did not fix problem

hi, there could be a number of issues,

First check the speed pot, try moving the throttle lever in the upwards or downwards direction while going forward, if the scooter starts to pick up again then the speed pot is worn and needs replacing.

if the motor has brushes check them, make sure they can move freely, some times they stick and cause intermittant speed problems, check the battery conections and make sure they are tight.

If this helps please vote.

It appears to be out of power but suddenly the power reappears I

ok, that could be one of three things,

A bad connection with the battery so lift the battery and check contacts,

Check wiring to the speed pot, you will have to remove the top unit that house the speed pot etc (Wign wam)

A faultly speed pot is the other cause, to confirm trying moving the pot up and down, is there a lot of play , try moving the lever slowly, if it jerks about, it needs replacing.
