SOURCE: Connecting front panel wiring to INTEL 845GRG Motherboard

Hello davideiker1, the Intel D845GRG MB manual is shared with another Intel board. (D845GBV MB). Go to this Intel site & download the D845GRG manual; http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-008873.htm You'll need Adobe reader to view the manual. Download Adobe from this link; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
See page 9 for motherboard layout.
The front panel connectors are shown on page 68, see item C.
On page 69 is, Table 31 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header. Front Panel Header (J9G1).
Pin 1 is power for the hard disk drive led, pin-3 is negative for the hard disk drive. Wire colors coming from the case are important. Look at all of the front case wires. The common color for each 2-pin connector will be ground. In most cases the ground wire is white, except for the internal speaker. Ground for the speaker is normally black. (This motherboards speaker is built into the MB, no hook up is needed).
Pin number 2 is positive for the case power led which lights up as green. Pin 4 is negative for the power led.
The reset switch is a bit different. Pin 5 is negative & pin 9 is positive, however if your case uses a two pin connector than connect pin 7 as ground & pin 9 for positive. The On/Off switch, pin 6 is positive & pin 8 is negative.
If this manual is not what you see on the MB, please advise.

Good luck davideiker1!

One of my personal biggest problem with those God forsaken things is making sure they're facing the proper way. At least the non-single ones. The lettering should all face the same way. Which way that is, I'm not sure, but it tends to be facing the outside of the mobo. Hope that helps, and good luck.

Info to connect front panel leds

Each of the ends of the cables that lead to the LEDs should be labelled, e.g., 'PWR/power', 'RST/reset', 'SPK/speaker', 'HDLED/hard-drive-LED', 'PWRLED/power-LED'.

Connect each labelled connector to the labelled pins on the motherboard.

I have the same problem!!!

Diagonally opposite to where you connect your mouse and keyboard, there will be pins for connecting front panel connectors. You can identify them by the names like SPK or Speaker written near them. You just have to match the front panel connectors with that of the pins. USB pins will be near these pins and will be labled as USB5 or USB4 on the motherboard. USB front panel connector can be inserted in only one direction.

Configuration

Hi

The wires that read +5 -d +d and ground those are USB connectors each usb connector will have 4 wires, +5 -d +d and ground so that goes to usb pins.

The sw must be power switch
The HDD led is the load light
Reset is the reset button
Power led is the front power light
SPK is the speaker / beeper.

Can you tell me the brand and model of the motherboard? They are documented in the user manual. but generally in the bottom right corner of the motherboard you have the connectors for the leds and buttons, its all written into the motherboard with small white text. but I can get clear instructions from the user manual for you.

You can look for the motherboard details between the expansion slots and between the cpu and memory.

Thanks,
Ekse

Compaq Power Led and Speakers connectors

Ok on the front panel pin header , you should see 2 pins labeled SPK for the speaker and 2 pins labeled pw led. And also you should see 2 pins for the reset connector. Use a flashlight and /or a magnify glass, the letter may be faint.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
