Every time I turn the printer on it prints a test page.
How can I stop it?
It wasn't like that before. The problems started after replacing cartridge.

Thanks in advance

Yes, this is happening to me with the same printer.

  • Maureen K Jan 26, 2009

I replaced the printer cartridge and at first the printer wanted to do the alignment test every time I wanted to print. The 2nd page would be what I wanted, but maybe a minute later. If I asked for 2 copies it made two reduced copies on one page. If I asked for 6 copies (with the photocopy ability) it did 6 reduced size copies on one page.

Now my printer is only trying to print a test alignment sheet and seems to have run out of ink even though this is a new ink cartridge.

    HELP!

I think the printer is "toast" and it's not that old.

This might be an alignment page. To get it to stop, you will have to go through the alignment and new cartrige setup in the hp software. This should be located under Start/All Programs/HP folder. I'm not sure what the software would be called but it should be easy to do if you have the HP software installed. Hope this helps!

Hi, Wonder can you help my printer keeps printing off test page everytime it is turned on. this is only happening since i changed the cartridge, never did this before. thanks

Hi,

Your printer is printing alignment pages, because the cartridge alignment was not completed since you replaced them. Follow the below steps to complete alignment.

  1. Turn the printer OFF and then turn back ON.
  2. Wait until the alignment sheet prints out fully.
  3. Place the alignment test page over the scanner glass.
  4. Press start color scan button.
  5. The printer "power" light will start flashing, indication the alignment process.
  6. After the printer stops flashing, turn off and then ON the printer. It will not print any test pages further.
We need to run alignment test every-time while we replace ink cartridges.

Each time the printer is turned on, it prints the test page

You need to scan the test page in order for the printer to stop printing a test page every time you turn it on.

Printer printed test page but won't stop printing

Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.

1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again

2. Let the printer print the test page.

3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.

4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.

5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.

6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!

(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

In starting 1 page print

Hi,

I believe that after changing the ink cartridge you havent completed the alignment process. This Alignment test page will print everytime you turn the printer ON.To Complete the alignment follow my steps.

1.After turning the printer ON, wait untill the printer prints the Alignment test page.

2.Then place the alignment test paper on the scanner, facing down in a correct position.

3.Then press the Scan button(color) and wait untill the printer ON light stops flashing.

4.After the light stops flashing, take the paper out and the alignment process is completed.

Turn OFF and turn On the printer, it will not print the Test page again.try it and please let me know.Would really appreciate your rating for my solution.

Thanks

HP Photosmart C3100 series BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.

Test page

I had the same problem and being helped by HP operator.
first take the USB cable out of your computer, then put it off and then on again...it starts to print the test page again...then after the printer stops printing, put the just printed testpage face down on the scanner(glas) and press scan manually...after the scanning(you wait till that is finnished) and then put the printer off and on again....then connect the USB cable to the computer and that will stop the printer from printing the testpage every time you startup your printer....

hope it wil solve your problem, it did for me...
