More then likely if your IT person could not fix the speakers then it will be a hardware issue. I would suggest to contact IBM to find out about a local repair center if at all any. You may also want to check the headphone jack to see if it still works to.

Hello Jakarta,

I assume you have XP installed on your computer,

START>Right click on MY COMPUTER>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager,
Let the list build........This will display all your devices installed on the computer,
Any issues will be highlighted in a YELLOW Question Mark,
Right click and Uninstall this device,
Shut down and Restart.
When you restart the Operating System XP will recoginise and self install the device and show a message when its done,
============================
Try your sound now ,..........

Still no sound ???
============================
then go to START>CONTROL PANEL,
(Let the list build),
and look here for your audio controller or sound device.
If not present then you will need to download the drivers from the Manufactuers Download site,
phew,
That covers it all ,I hope,
any questions please ask away,

Thanks Misterdj,

Ibm t42 will notwork with wireless adaptercard

What Operating System are you using?
Have you checked here for the drivers?:

Try installing the correct drivers or using Windows Update to find them.

I need laptop drivers(ibm t42)

they are freely available from the IBM web site. The ones you want are usually the motherboard drivers but may be shown separately as you detail them.

Where is the wireless switch located on the IBM thinkpad T42

Unlike the newer laptops, the T42 doesn't have it's own wireless switch. So in order to get the wireless working, you need to also make sure that the Power Management driver and the Hotkey driver are installed as well.

Load the drivers in this order:

1) Power Management driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG
2) Hotkey driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-68000
3) Wireless Driver - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70504
After downloading it, you must go into C>Drivers>Win>Wlanint and run the setup file from there.
4) Access Connections (Optional) - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZLNJB

IBM T42 with no sound card

It should be part of the mainboard rather than a separate card. Try uninstalling the drivers, then reboot and see if it detects new hardware.
