There is a service manual here Viking Sewing Machine 6000 Series Technical Briefing Viking Free Download... this is an old machine that used "pot metal" for the gears. Dry lubricant could help.

SOURCE: reverse sewing button stuck HELP!!

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.

SOURCE: Viking sewing machine model 6430 will only sew backwards

Th cam stack gears have gummed up on you you can try getting the back cover off along with the side and soaking the machine down with wd-40 and running it while forcing the reverse button in and out if it breaks free try and soak up as much of the wd-40 as you can and then oil anything that moves. I know this may be discouraging but viking no longer supports this machine and you might be better off taking it to an older viking dealer for help.

SOURCE: My model 210 is stuck in reverse. Can you help?

The only thing you can do to possible free the mechanism is to turn the lower dial back and forth a bit, from the position where it is in permanent reverse to the numbered area on the dial. Make sure the selector is not on the buttonhole position. That machine doesn't really have a history of that issue but anything is possible, especially if it has sat for awhile and not been used. If moisture was present where it was stored, it's possible the feed linkage is slightly rusted and simply stuck.

I have a singer heavy duty 4423 I am sewing a curtain out of a sheet every time I try to reverse sew my machine jams up but straight sewing seems to be ok

If your Singer Heavy Duty 4423 is jamming when you try to sew in reverse, it may be due to a few issues:
  1. Thread tension: Make sure your thread tension is not too tight, which can cause the thread to bunch up and jam the machine. Try loosening the tension slightly.
  2. Needle: Make sure you are using the correct needle for the fabric you are sewing. A dull or damaged needle can cause the machine to jam.
  3. Bobbin: Check your bobbin to make sure it is threaded correctly and is not damaged.
  4. Machine maintenance: It's important to keep your machine clean and well-oiled. A buildup of lint or dirt can cause the machine to jam.
  5. Sewing speed: Slow down when sewing in reverse. Sometimes going too fast in reverse can cause the machine to jam.
If none of these solutions work, it may be a mechanical issue with the machine and it's best to take it to a professional for repair

Have a stuck thread in left thread guide, how can I remove?

The inclination would be to tell you to reverse the machine. However, that would be ill advised. The thread is probably jammed tightly and reversal could place a strain on the mechanism resulting in damage to the machine. The best advice would be to take it to a repair shop where the thread could be removed without damage. Without identification of brand and model, I can't refer you to a service manual. Davco shops work on many sewing machines.

My Husqvarna Viking model 6000SL Sewing Machine would only sew in reverse the dealer has got it to sew forward but says the cam is jammed and he cannot get it off can you help?

You will need to have it serviced by a Viking Service Tech. You can find a dealer near you by using the link 'Locate a Dealer' at the Husqvarna Viking Website - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us
If the local dealer cannot repair, they can send it to the Viking Service Center in Nashville, TN for repair.

Europro model 6131 is stuck in reverse

I have never found any online instruction manuals and repair manuals are just as non-existent.

You can try jiggling the reverse lever while turning the hand wheel. Other than that the only suggestion I have is to use the machine for target practice.

My bernina patchwork 140 will not sew in reverse when I press the reverse button has the button gone bad the button hole won't sew ithe back stitch either?

Some machines will not do any of their automatic forwards and backwards movement type stitches in reverse, are you trying to reverse in straight stitch or a more complex stitch.

The Activa is a late model quality machine, do you have a Bernina dealer locally you could ring up and ask or take it to?

My machine is only sewing in reverse

It sounds like either your feed drive motor is gone or the main front board. Probably the board, call a local dealer and ask if they have seen this problem, and offer a solution, a husqvarna dealer is the only one who would understand this issue. The board may not be available any more, we are having problems with supply here in Canada with parts on that old a unit. If its the #1plus or 1250 model you are referring to. A "newer" designer 1 would have the same solution, but parts are readily available for it. Now if its an older mechanical machine the reverse mechanism could be jammed and needes lubrication.

Most likely is that the reverse mechanism is jammed with old oil and lint to form a glue.......especially if the machine has not been used recently or regularly.
If you can remove the base plates from underneath easily, then try to operate the reverse lever, you will see a metal lever trying to move a collar around the shaft......apply a small amount of WD40 or similar to both sides of the join then press the reverse rapidly for a while, move it by hand if necessary back and forth..........with regular use this is rarely an issue, it is most common when the machine is idle for long periods.
If you cannot remove base plates easily, ie if the case is split down the middle in 2 sections, take it to a Janome Dealer who has the repair manual as trying to split the case yourself without the manual is very difficult and you will probably break the retaining clips.
