I have a sandisk disk on key with a 4gb memory capacity. it currently has NOTHING stored on it yet says i only have 1.45 gb free. how do i clear this up? is there a way i need to format...

Hey gita! Formatting a Flash drive is really simple! Assuming you're using Windows, plug it in your PC and go to My Computer. Right click on the drive and press Format. You can choose either Quick format or normal format(Quick format does it really quickly but it may not yield best results). After that simply press Format and wait for it to finish.
You should have formatted your Flash drive and have your original 4GB of space restored!
Keep in mind that you may have less than 4GB(about 3.8-3.7) This is because formatting writes instructions to the flash drive.
Have fun :)

I have a 32GB sandisk cruzer stick. I've used what is called diskpart in Windows 7 to select and format the stick in fat32. I'll take it to a Windows XP box and try to drop a substantial size file to...

Sorry but you wont be able to put a file larger than 4gb due to file format limitation since you used fat32. only NTFS supports files larger than 4gb. if you want to use it with large files you need to format again using NTFS. hope that helps!

4GB pen stick cannot write when used space over 2GB

You formatted your pendrive with a FAT32 Filesystem instead of using NTFS.

Do the following. Backup the data currently on the drive, Right click on the drive, choose Format and under Filesystem, choose NTFS ... click ok... you will not be able to use all 4Gb of space on the drive.

Good Luck
