How do i scan and copy a paper - Lexmark X1240 All-In-One InkJet Printer

No make/model, so here's a generic method:
[based on Samsung Multi-function]

Presuming printer is a MF unit:
Place paper-to-copy face down on the flatbed glass.
Close lid.
Ensure blank paper is correctly loaded in feeder tray.
For a once-off direct 'photocopy':
Press COPY on printer .

For copying (scanning) to a file:
Printer on, drivers installed, blank paper loaded, original on flatbed.
At computer, go to Start.
In search-box type in scan
Left-click magnifying glass to confirm search.
You should see Scan a document or picture appear in icon list.
Click this.
A scanning window should pop up:

Symptom: Black or Blank image while copying or scanning.
Part suspect rating: Scan head..70%
Scan head cable...25%
Formatter...5%
For tech guys only: Remove ADF unit from the printer, remove both side covers of adf, remove & replace scan head, check...
Replace scan head

Printing from system is OK? Do scan and check.not proper ? check CCD unit & cable..
Suspecting 80% CCD unit(Unit under flat bed glass moves while scan or copy with lamp)
20% cable(flat ribbon cable connected between CCD unit & Formatter) see the snap shot for easy recognition of CCD

You have to set the scan option to 8.5 X 14 original paper before you copy to copy the whole paper, otherwise it assumes 8.5 X 11, and stops scanning at the 11" mark.
Use the copy option button rather than the copy black or copy color buttons.

Without knowing the make and model, that's the best advice I can give, but you should be able to figure it out with this information!

When the paper is fed through Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is is scanned before copy or fax. The scanner is fixed type and is located just below the ADF.
The lines are due to dirty scanner mirror. The printer/ scanner design is based Sheet-Fed Scanner. Open/Lift the Control Panel (scanner top )(by pulling it up from front - the area from where the paper to scan comes out). Look out for the horizontal mirror and use a soft, damp, lint-free cloth to gently clean the scanner mirror, rollers etc. and enjoy clear scanning and copying!

Inspect for any tron pieces of paper dirt etc.DONT USE PAPER, CHEMICALS OR ANY ABRASIVE CLOTH as it may damage the parts.
Also note that your machine can scan an image only 8.15 inches wide, regardless of how wide the paper is.

Scanning the Document

Place the original on the glass.
1) Open the document cover and place your original face-down on the glass, in the upper left corner. Move your original about 1/10 inch away from the top and left edges so all of it will be copied. 2) Close the cover gently so you don't move the original . Caution : Never open the document beyond where it stops and do not place heavy objects on top of the CX4600. If you need to copy or scan a thick or large document, you can remove the document cover. Just open it and pull it straight up. If you need to press the document flat while you copy or scan it, do not press too hard and be careful not to move it. Caution : Do not use excessive force on the document cover, and do not twist it diagonally. You may damage the document cover. When you are done, replace the document cover by inserting the tabs back into the slots. Copying a document. 1) Load paper. 2) Press copy button until you see the desired number of copiesin the Copy window You can select up to 9 copies at a time. 3) Press the paper type button to select PLain Paper. The light indicates which type is selected. 4) Press the paper size button to select Letter. 5) If you want your copies automatically reduced or enlarged to fit the loaded paper size, press the Fit to Page button. 6) To make color copy, press the Start Color button To make black and white copy, press Start B&W button. The ON light flashes and after a moment the CX4600 starts printing. If you need to stop copying at any time, just press the Stop button. The document feeder is used for copying and scanning ,it is a unit in a copier where you can placed your documents or originals for copying and scanning. The bypass tray is used for copying and printing, the bypass tray is used for types of paper like plain paper, acetates etc and customized papers. If you want to used the bypass tray for printing you should go to printer properties or configuration and select the tray you want to used like bypass tray .

cartridge error

Regular copy paper that I got from the Staples. Same paper in the paper tray/drawer as in the multi-bypass tray. Thanks.

There is no paper to waist!

The machine scans the whole glass! The settings for scanning can be set by the scan software. Do have a look there. It might be that the settings auto crop the size.
In case you run copy do change the paper size.
