The fan may be out that keeps the bulb cool. The shutdown is to protect the lamp from overheating. Do you have any flashing indicator lights on the projector after turning it on?

Hey zrscott388, did you end up replacing the bulb and did that fix it? My Z1 is doing the same thing. I hate to spend 300-400 on a bulb and it doesn't work. The Z5 is going for 1100 new on Ebay. I rather do that than waste money. Please let me know.

call sanyo tech department and they will help you increase the fan speed to cool the unit. This is done with the remote so it was pretty easy. Make sure your filters are very clean first (use compressed air or a co2 canister. Have not had a problem since, my units run on average 8 hours a night and have not shut down.

SOURCE: Sanyo PLC-XF46N projector shuts down before powering up completely

The Fix Ya rep suggested that I try the "Reset" button located next to the Audio out on the side of the projector; this solution proved to be the fix I needed. I was able to get the lamps to warm up and get into the menu to cut back the bulbs/power consumption on start-up, allowing the projector to function for a problem-free 4 hour period Unfortunately, I had the same issue this morning, but the same fix worked again.

Theatre projector is unable to switch inputs in menu

This is worth a try: Turn everything OFF. Unplug all the inputs from the projector and turn them off too. Next, turn the projector ON and all the input devices ON. Then, one by one plug each input device (already turned ON) into the projector. See if this helps. I have a SONY monitor that supports multiple inputs and a few times this has worked.
Good luck.

overheating. clean out the projector with canned air. dust keeps in the heat. should be done periodically. about every 500 hours or so, depending on usage and environment. if it happens often after that, replace the thermosensor and check the fans.

PLV-Z1 no longer powering up - Ready light is green and the Lamp light is red

I have a Sanyo XU35. Mine was starting up and showed a picture for about 15 - 30 seconds then shutting down. My lamp warning light was not coming on. When I put it in for repairs it turned out to be the lamp that needed replacing. The technician said it is not uncomman for the lamp to be gone and the lamp warning light not to come on. I got my lamp on e-bay from ping_ngo for a great price.
