Unit will not switch on. Just sits there with a blinking red light that flashes endlessly. 3.5V rail on pwr supply board is always good. And the 12V and 20V rails also are switched and energised when the power is attempted to be turned on by pressing the side power on button. Its at this time that the front red LED blinks endlessly. Any ideas what could be wrong?

The flashing light indicates a short circuit inside the power supply circuitry. This type of repair is not a DIY without a multimeter, desoldering iron and hand soldering skills. I repair these power supplies, if you need further info write to [email protected]

Hi syzonker
Before you replace the power supply , check for swollen(rounded top)capacitors.
Also check and replace C126 47mfds/50 volts
And C520 1000mfds/16 volts
good luck and let me know if you need further help

Yes it does sound like the mainboard. But we have to confirm. I will see if there is a service manual for this unit in my collection but do you think you can safely work on it? Have you worked on electronics before? The last thing I want is you hurting yourself trying to fix it. HV circuits are not to be messed with unless you know about them.

10 blinks on this set is not a power supply fault but rather an A-board fault(Main A/V board). Hence replacing power supply would not do the trick. I suggest you return the board and get an A-board for +50$ and I am confident that it will resolve your problem.
Sai.

Check BL_ERR pin on back light inverter board, what is volt reading that you get before and after tv shuts down? Let me know to proceed.
Thanks.
BTW, I really enjoyed your quote * I don't trust the blinking anymore *
