You may have temporarily turned it off by accident. See the image below, if not reply and I can suggest other things.

Filter keys?

dv6000 or is it Paviliion G6-a1nnnnn
eg: G6-1a52nr or other numbers? w7 here.
what OS? XP? or w7?
pav G6.
what are you doing? tell what you are doing exactly
where are you in windows. (unstated OS )
ok you meant MS-WORD, processor.
the word Word' has 2 meanings. one is in english
the the other is slang for MS-WORD (processing)
microsoft office word, (mines version 2007 , what is yours.)

sound to me like corrupted OS .
best if a microsoft product of any kind acts odd
ask on a real Microsoft forum (google that find that?)
word processing is one of the most complex of major apps.
endless facts there.

there are 15 G6 series PC.as seen here, which one is yours>?
https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/laptops/pavilion-notebooks

is it still original or upgraded, in any way, we cant guess that ever.
same OS, same MS_WORD?
my guess is system has a virus.

did you create a new file and tell it what type you want first.
that is first, or MS-word will fail.
study filter types (google it)

NO OS stated
no full model stated, DV7-nnnn, what is the nnnn?
NO OS stated, this XP? the virus magnet?

sounds like the post is how to get the mouse pad on the top
of the laptop working right, that it?
first use any USB mouse made, plug it in, get it to work
then fix the PC using a REAL MOUSE.

the mouse pads fail because the driver, is missing or wrong.
NO OS stated, at all so how can any one help you lacking such a key fact.
but if you did use the mouse external USB.
and did go to device manager using the mouse
and did change the driver on the MOUSE pad, to the one
that is on HP site, it would work (if not damaged)
no full model stated so cant show exact pages

see here why DV7 means Zero">
https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/laptops/pavilion-notebooks

29 models made.
lets say you said - dash 1000.
id say
go here
then you said, windows 7-32bit.
and id show this. (show at tell , like kids do)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-dv7-1000-entertainment-notebook-pc-series/3744231

then find the mouse driver,
HP has the here. click mouse

sp45623.exe (27.6 MB)
my best guess, lacking all facts but DV7 terse

You meant the built in mouse pad fails.

why not use wired USB mouse, now, and end the pain ,
then with a working mouse , get the HP driver from HP
and install it from HP. for W7. (luck)
at HP, fixyah is not HP, not at all..
that will work, if not driver issue, then buy a new pad. oops none are sold new.
after 10 years. so that leaves what, used pads sold on ebay..'
..
HP dot com. your support page. (seems to be collapsing from age)10years old it does. by hp rules.
even the tx2500 series is 10 years old now.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-tx2000-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/3650975

does your service tag show tx2000 , that is series
not telling the service tag number gets you wrong facts.
wrong drivers, so next time show the full model

try the support assistant there.?

here are the full list of tx2000 series PC
see ,its not just one PC, we need the full model p/n to answer
with any accuracy at all.

http://partsurfer.hp.com/WSearch.aspx?Wchar=Y&searchText=tx2000#

there is no guarantee at all any w7 driver exist. for your mouse pad but many times the Vista version will work
you lost that now, i you dont have the install disks from HP.
or the pad is simply bad.

we have tools here to scan your pad chips to see the makers
name and then get driver from them direct. after HP drops support.
