There are a few things it could be. Pull the handle back into the vacuuming position and turn the brush bar switch on and off while listening to see if you can hear the brush bar motor turn off and on. If you can hear the brush bar motor running it may need a new belt and/or the brush bar may be seized up.
There is a switch by the main power switch that provides power to run the brush bar motor. There is a micro switch down in the motor area that closes the circuit to the brush bar motor when you pull the handle back. Check electrical connections and all of the above parts to determine which one or one's may be defective.

SOURCE: beater bar motor will not engage

Check your clutch to make sure it's engaged. There should be a knob on the foot of the vacuum that can be turned to stop the roller.

SOURCE: beater bar doesn't turn

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Check that the brush control dial is in the centre position when upright and then moves forward when the head is released. If the brush bar is still not spinning when switched on in the vacuuming position, check the base for blockages and remove any threads or hairs from the brush bar as outlined in your user guide or on our website.

If you are still having difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

SOURCE: beater bar is not turning...read

Worked for me thanks very very much! I always try this button and it didn't work. Pulled the head off, cleaned out any fuzz, hair, etc. Still didn't turn on the beater bar. Cursed, cried, etc. Found you here (even after trying the dyson site!) and got the solution. I had to push that button in harder than I've ever had to. Nearly thought I broke it off. Tada!! It worked. Thank you!!! Now where the kleenix?

SOURCE: how to fix beater bar on dc 14

      Hi Brenda,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. If the brushbar doesn't seem to be rotating, please check you have the brush control set to 'Carpets', rather than 'Hard Floors'. The brush control is on the left-hand side of the cleaner head when the machine is facing you - it may help to take a look at the user guide:

      http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc14_opmanual_usa2007.pdf

Please note, the brushbar is designed not to rotate when the machine is standing in the upright position, so make sure you have it reclined into the vacuuming position before testing it.

If there is no suction from the hose, there may be a blockage in the wand, hose or U-bend - to locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ALLFLOORS_US

You may also need to wash the filter - in normal use, this needs to be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for it to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve your issues, but if you need any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can help.

      Best wishes,

Vax Air Reach bar won't spin

If the beater bar on your Vax Air Reach vacuum cleaner won't spin, despite the fact that the green light is on, there may be a few possible causes:
      1. Belt is worn or broken: If the beater bar belt is worn or broken, it will not spin. Check the belt to see if it is intact and not stretched or frayed. If it is, you may need to replace the belt.
      2. Beater bar is clogged: If the beater bar is clogged with hair, debris, or other objects, it may not be able to spin. Remove the beater bar and clean it thoroughly, removing any blockages or tangles.
      3. Motor is faulty: If the motor that powers the beater bar is faulty, it may not be able to turn the bar. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the motor may need to be repaired or replaced.
Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
      1. Turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the power source.
      2. Remove the beater bar by releasing the clips or screws that hold it in place.
      3. Check the beater bar for blockages, and clean it thoroughly.
      4. Check the beater bar belt for wear or damage, and replace it if necessary.
      5. Reinstall the beater bar and secure it in place.
      6. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on to see if the beater bar is now spinning.
If the above steps do not work, it may be necessary to contact Vax customer support or a professional repair technician for further assistance.

How do I replace small belt on Panasonic MC-UG304?

Do you mean the beater bar belt or the motor shaft belt? If so, you need to set the vacuum in a horizontal configuration and turn the vacuum upside down. Next remove the five screws from the base plate and lift the base plate off.

To replace the motor shaft belt, remove it from the outer pulley and the motor shaft. Put the new belt on the motor shaft and the outer pulley. To replace the beater bar belt, release the motor shaft belt to allow access the beater bar. Lift up the beater bar assembly to remove the beater bar belt. Replace the beater bar belt. Replace the beater bar assembly. Replace the motor shaft belt. Turn the beater bar assembly by hand to check that the unit is seated correctly. Put the base plate back on the vacuum. Align the tabs on the base plate with the slots on the vacuum and replace the five screws.

The manual for the Panasonic MC-UG304 is available here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/940210/Panasonic-Mc-Ug302.html . See page 5 for images of the steps.

      I hope this helps.

My Dyson vaccum leaves a row of multiple lines on my plush carpet. I've never had s vaccum leave more than the two wheel lines. I called customer service and they had no solution for me!

It's the beater bar brush. Turn it over and use a screwdriver or knife, and run it the full width of the beater bar to remove the hair and string and other debris that get wound up on the beater bar-NOTE you do NOT have to remove the beater bar or take apart anything. As long as the beater bar spins, and there are no missing sections on the beater bar- this will work. Beater bar could also be worn down- be sure that the bristles extend past the bottom of the vacuum- ALWAYS DO THIS WITH THE POWER OFF

My XV 11 Vacuum keeps on bringing up the message " My vacuum is stuck"

This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.

Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

      Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
      1. Turn off the power (unplug).
      2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
      3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
      4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
      5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

      Best regards, --W/D--

The beater bar will not turn

Hello rebh. Generally when the vacuum beater bar will not turn it is because the belt that turns this beater bar has broken.

That said, most of the dyson's require you to buy a beater bar assembly which includes the belt. Any vacuum cleaner repair shop will have this part. OR go to this link http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/brands-products/Dyson-Inc-Parts/Vacuum-Parts

WHEN I TURN MY VACUME ON IT SOUNDS FINE, WHEN UPRIGHT. WHEN I GO TO MOVE IT TO HOOVER IT MAKES A SCREAMING NOISE. CAN U TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG PLEASE AND HOW TO FIX. THANK YOU

When the vaccum is upright, the beater bar is not engaged. When you tilt the handle back, the clutch engages and the beater bar begins to turn.

There are two likely possibilities for the "screaming noise". First, and most likely, is that the beater bar cannot turn because of a build up of debris or the beater bar is broken. In eaither case, the clutch belt is spinning on the non-moving beater bar causing the noise. Remove the beater bar, inspect for hair, carpet fibers or other items wrapped around the bar. Also inspect for cracks in the plasitc at the ends of the bar. Clean or replace the bar as needed.

The second possible cause is the clutch assembly. If you were unable to fix the problem with the first solution, it is time to take the vacuum in for service as replacing the clutch is somewhat difficult.

Here is a YouTube video link that will walk you through the process of removing the beater bar as well as the clutch if you decide to go it on your own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_CtaFcc5HU

      Hope this helps.

Vacuum turns on and suction in hose works, beater bar won't turn

If you hear the motor in the head running and the beater bar isn't rotating, you probably need a drive belt. With the power off, make sure you can rotate the beater bar freely by hand, if it isn't bound up.. then locate and remove the baseplate screws to gain access to the beater bar itself, you'll see a drive belt pulley system and chances are, a broken belt. Replace it with a new one by pulling the beater bar assembly out of the housing and plcing the belt onto the motor shaft pulley as well as the beater bar pulley.. nest the beater bar back into the holder and reinstall the cover. Hope that helps !
