Probiotics are live microorganisms promoted with claims that they provide health benefits when consumed, generally by improving or restoring the gut flora and can be found in certain foods such as yogurts and health supplements http://www.thecultureco.com.au/benefits/.

No. Omeprazole is a medicine that decreases the amount of acid your stomach produces for about 24 hours. It starts to work in about an hour, and is not meant to be used long-term without medical supervision for several reasons.

Probiotics are bacteria that are normally present in healthy digestive tract (mouth to anus), and help protect our immune system, help us keep unhealthy toxins and bad bacteria and yeast out of the bloodstream, and help digest our food. These can become decreased in number (\'out of balance") after being sick with diarrhea, getting food poisoning, taking antibiotics, etc. You can help them return to normal more quickly by eating foods that contain these live good bacteria or their cousins. They can be found in fermented foods like Kim Chi (Kim Chee), miso, and in yogurt, Kefir, and other cultured milk products like Activia...or by buying them in capsules. Cheap flavored yogurt may not have much if any live bacteria....Look for "live cultures" and words like "acidophilus", "bifidus", etc. on the label. They can help with prevention and treatment of vaginal and intestinal yeast infections, thrush, colitis, etc. by restoring the balance.

I see "FixYa" thinks parts of our digestive and reproductive systems are dirty words they had to "rectum. As a nurse, I feel otherwise, so let me say that the digestive tract goes from the mouth all the way to the opening for waste products we have at the other end. That\'s your mouth, throat, swallowing tube, stomach, intestines and anus**/****. The yeast infection I meant other than intestinal is a gynecological one...but thrush too is simply an overgrowth of yeast in the mouth and throat. Yeast belong in the digestive and female external reproductive tract, but when they outgrow the normal balance, can cause soreness, bleeding, discharge, etc. Yogurt and fermented foods help with all of these; try eating yogurt with live cultures after every round of antibiotics unless you have an immune system deficiency, in which case your medical provider can advise you. Probiotic capsules some in many brands, drugstores have them in the laxative section. It\'s the number and variety of cultures per capsule that determine usefulness. Probiotics can be taken with omeprazole, but whether it\'s a good idea depends on why your\'re asking!

Our son has Guillian Barre 3 years still on crutches will he ever get full balance back his left leg weaker than the right. He is still doing physio his self and goes to physio.

Guillain-Barr? syndrome typically reaches its nadir within 2-3 weeks, followed initially by a plateau period of similar duration, and then subsequently by gradual but complete recovery in most cases. Along with other treatment, try adding fermented food items also called probiotics. you can research on them on web. This is one product https://www.amazon.in/GISKAA-Spicy-Fermented-Bamboo-Pickle/dp/B01NAU854J/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1507361175&sr=8-2&keywords=fermented+bamboo

Any food product like curds, bread, etc that require microbial processing are also considered probiotics. Use at least one probiotic item that will keep immune system active in body.

What are the long term side effects from using Omeprazole?

Osteoporosis. Additionally, new research suggests a link to dementia. By the way, I take omeprazole (prlosec). In my opinion, the benefits outweigh the risks. I also take celebrex which is known to sometimes contribute to cardiac issues, but I can't imagine life without it. Back to omeprazole: My 96 year old mother's doc recently took her off of it for fear of dementia. So, there's your answer.
