Had the same problem, blew out the card slot with air and fixed it. Apparently poor contact points with the card.

SOURCE: camera screen said SD card is locked when I installed an SD card

#1) On my camera if there was a picture that got stored in the internal memory it would not reconize the sd card nor store the pictures on the sd card. I would have to take the sd card out and delete the pictures in the internal memory and then reinsert the sd card.
#2) Some how or other the files that were on the sd card would get scrambled on the sd card when I would try to erase them. I would have to reformat the sd card back to a "fat" format before it would work again.

SOURCE: The camera worked for two

It's probably the small ffc(ribbon cable) connections from control panel to main board...remove top to access control panel;remove 5? screws and CAREFULLY lift control panel from camera...ribbon cable is obvious...it connects at both ends to zif(zero insertion force) connectors...EXTREME CARE HERE...the small brown part lifts to remove pressure to cable and cable can be GENTLY removed...try re-inserting cable CAREFULLY to align conductors with contacts.

Do a hard reset, turn camera off, take out battery's and sd card out. once you have everything out push your on/off button for about 5 sec. then put only battery's back it should say no card. Cannon EOS Rebel XS shows busy display stopped working

Just got a brand new camera. Played around with it a few nights to learn all the parts and buttons. Went to a concert tonite. While waiting for the show I took many test shots to see how the camera would work under these contiditions. Used a 75 to 300 Cannon lens. I had just got the settings about right when the show started. All of a sudden the display went dark and "busy" flashed in the view finder. But it would not take any more pictures. Taking the battery out and removing the sd card did not help. The auto focus and flash still worked but nothing else.
This camera is going back to the store if I can't get some help. PLEASE............. vj

Nothing on screen

Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. it is complex you need to send it to the service center.

SD Card Recognition

Perform the following procedures when your digital camera does not detect the SD card. 1. Restart the camera Turn the main power OFF, or open the battery cover or SD card/battery cover to remove the battery. Make sure the SD card is fully installed. Then, turn the main power ON, or insert a battery again and close the battery cover or SD card/battery cover until it latches. 2. Initialize the SD card Format the SD card with your camera. Formatting procedures varies depending on the camera model. See the Camera User Guide supplied with your camera for the instruction to format the SD card. When formatting the SD card, slide its tab upward to cancel write protection. It is impossible to format the SD card while it is write protected. 3. Check if your camera detects other SD cards (If you own multiple SD cards.) If your camera does not detect the SD card after performing the procedures 1 and 2, check if the camera detects other SD cards. If it does detect other SD cards, the SD card that wasn't detected may contain some problem.
