Canon BJC 8500 WASTE INK FULL

Probably not worth messing with this, since I saw a canon MP250 in Wal-mart for $32., yesterday.

The actual "waste tank full" error is 10 beeps + 6 flashes of the power light.


Waste tank is full:

"waste ink tank" is actually a "felt" like material under a white polystrene foam like material. To get to it, you have to remove the case of the printer and it is at the very bottom beneath the printer paper rollers and electronics.

CAUTION UNPLUG YOUR PRINTER FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY BEFORE YOU DISMANTLE IT.
WARNING - OPENING UP YOUR PRINTER WILL VOID THE LIMITED WARRANTY GIVEN BY CANON.

If your waste tank is full, it wont be white but will be black+other colours and will have the appearance of being soaked with waste ink.

CAUTION HANDLE WITH GLOVES ON AS THE WASTE INK GETS EVERYWHERE AND IS NOT EASY TO WASH OUT!

Washed the felt pad by soaking and rinsing in lots of cold water and dried it with a hot air drier and reused it. But it is a very messy process.

Your printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. As time goes by, the waste ink tank gradually fills. When the waste ink tank is nearly full, you should receive a "Waste ink warning" error when you print. Press the RESUME button on the printer to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, have the waste ink tank replaced.

The 8 beep error you are getting is a waste ink tank full error. The BJC 85 has a waste ink " tank " that is actually a series of absorbent cotton pads in the bottom of the printer. When these pads fill with ink, the printer is designed to produce that error and stop printing until the pads are replaced.

I can give you a work around to this and get you printing, but you must understand that, because the waste ink absorber is full, ink will eventually start leaking out into the bottom of your printer and either leak out of the printer, or end up shorting out the main circuit board , which is also in the bottom.

Here is the work around that will reset the printer and get you printing again:

1. Shut off the printer and unplug it from the power supply.

2. While holding down BOTH the POWER and RESUME buttons, plug the power supply back in. KEEP HOLDING DOWN the buttons until after the printer does it's initial actuation and then goes quiet again, then let go of the buttons. .

3. With the fingers of one hand Hold down the RESUME and CARTRIDGE buttons and with the other hand hold down the POWER button. Listen for 2 BEEPS. they will not be loud, and one will be longer than the other. When you hear the 2 beeps, let go of all the buttons.

4. Now press the CARTRIDGE button 15 times. You will hear a beep each time it' pressed. Make sure you count the beeps correctly.

5. After you have pressed the cartridge button 15 times, then press the RESUME button. The printer will beep and shut off.

6. Press the POWER button and the printer will power on and be ready to print. At this point, the printer will have been reset to indicate the waste ink is 50% full.

If you make a mistake, you can unplug the prnter and start over from step 1 at any time.

REMEMBER: Your waste ink pads are still FULL. You need to either replace the pads, or replace the printer before to much time goes by. If you see any ink leaking out the bottom of the printer, definitely stop using it.

Super Canon User's method of resetting IP1600
1.Press Resume button hold for 1 - 2 minutes (count to 1 to 15-16)
2.Open the cover right away
3.Release Both cartridges out and then put cartridges them back again
4.Close The Cover
5.Turn Off Then Turn On again.

3. Run GeneralTool.exe
4. Select the connected USB port number from USB PORT
5. Click LOCK RELEASE, and select the applicable model name in SET DESTINATION
6. In CLEAR WASTE INK COUNTER, select MAIN or PLATEN. The selected waste ink counter will be reset. MAIN resets the main waste ink counter, PLATEN resets the platen waste ink counter.
If both the main and platen waste ink absorbers are replaced, reset both the main and platen waste ink counters.

Your waste ink absorber is full. You may be able to print by hitting resume. But it will need to be replaced soon.

This message is inbuilt into most Canon printers, there is spongy thing in the printer which when fills up fires the message (it's mostly a counter in the printer, which can be reset more later...), per Canon this can only be dealt with in a lab but some of the more adventurous have tried cleaning it by themselves. Note that in a lab they won't clean it, it's a part that needs replacing and it might cost around $60. In most Canon printers there is a reset procedure that can reset the error and allow you to print some more before handling it again. Following are the reset procedures for some of the Printers: (not that F60 isn't listed here) Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE Waste Ink Counter Reset. (1) Turn off the printer. (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button. (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will "reset" or move momentarily. If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode". (4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press. 1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check. 2. EEPROM - Info printout. 3. EEPROM - Initialization. 4. Reset the Waste ink counter. 5. Printer model setting.
