Disk 4 "is not ready"

> it does detect it on controller initiation.

Even when the drive is not spinning, it will identify itself (manufacturer, capacity) when queried. So, it's possible that it "checks-in", but files/directories on it cannot be read.

My dell poweredge 2600 wont load up

  1. Can you access the Bios configuration on boot by pressing F2? Check the setting
  2. By load up do you mean your server software does not boot? use F10 on post from the utility partition main menu under Run System Utilities.
  3. Is the server working with RAID? Press CTRL + R and check the RAID
I am not going to say check all the cables because I am sure you will have already?!?

Dell poweredge 2600 server recently display a message " No boot device available Press F1 to reboot or F2 to setup" Please why?

Did you experience a power event? Go to BIOS (F2), and make sure that RAID is Enabled. If RAID got turned off (power event, BIOS reset), then it will give you that message. If RAID is already enabled, then you may need to repair your operating system. If something else happened (drive failures, drives removed, etc.), then the array may be completely gone. Call Data Recovery services if it is critical you retreive the data.

XP cannot find disk

If you are installing this on a PowerEdge 2600, you will have difficulty installing XP, as this is a server and drivers will be scarce, not the least of which will be the RAID controller (PERC 4/Di). If you had it, you would need to load the driver at the F6 prompt just after booting to the Windows disk.

Unable to boot to anything external.

Save yourself some trouble. Pull a CD/DVD drive out of another computer or just buy one. They are very cheap. Connect the CD/DVD drive to the server and install the OS as usual.

If you are lucky WS2008 will already have a compatible SCSI/RAID driver. Otherwise, you will need to press F6 and install the driver from the floppy.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Setup can not find any hard disk while installing win 2003

During setup you must specify any raid drivers that are required. Have the raid controller driver on floppy and insert when prompted.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET WINDOWS XP TO LOAD ON THE DELL 2600 POWEREDGE SERVER IT ONLY OFFERS SERVER 2000 AND SERVER 2003 AND I CANT USE EITHER OF THEM THANKS MIKE

Hi tham01,

First off, if the server has raid already setup, you will need to go into lsi logic to format the drives so you can install XP. Once the drives have been initiated from the server bios, just place XP in the CDROM, and shouldn't have a problem loading on the 2600 POWEREDGE SERVER. If your trying to install it with the Dell quick install disk, you can't!!! Install it on it's own without the Dell Disk.

Good Luck!

A Dell PowerEdge Server will not start. The server goes through the boot sequence, but after a while there is no activity. OS: Windows 2000 server

This sounds like a RAM issue or a strange peripheral problem (when the driver loads it kills the system). Try running the system on only 1 stick of RAM at a time, swapping until you find a bad stick. Also, clean the contacts off with a pencil eraser before putting them in.

If this doesn't help, pull PCI cards one by one (except for the RAID card, if any - but do pull out, clean and put back in the RAID card just in case it's a contact issue) at a time until the system boots (or just try safe mode, but this won't tell you which one is a problem).

If the system still can't boot, then I'd say it's probably the motherboard.

Problem with creating array

The Perc RAID controller in a 2600 doesn't support RAID 4.
You can do RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 5.

With 3 HDD's your best bet would be a RAID 5.

Mirroring is RAID 1 (which would only use 2 of the drives)
