I am having the same black line when I copy and when I fax. I tried cleaning the glass but it didn't work.

  • mainu Nov 13, 2007

I have cleaned the whole machine but it did not work. Still the lining appearing.

  • nmblondie Nov 15, 2007

It worked! I cleaned the glass again and now it is faxing and copying correctyly.

    Thanks!

  • mainu Nov 19, 2007

    Thanks a lot.

Now the problem is solved. One HP Hardawre engineer visited, he found that there is some gum is in scanner glass.

The thing is that the problem is in scanner glass, now it is replaced, working fine.

My copy quality has been getting progressively worse. At first, I would get multiple black squares on the page instead of print when making a first copy (machine cold). After 2 or 3 passes, I would get a normal copy. But it is getting worse. Now it takes 4-5 copies when machine is cold before I get a quality copy. I see that some folks cleaned the glass. What did you use and how did you do it.

Mark on scan glass, clean glass slit in where original is fed for copying

  • Soulvisitor
    Soulvisitor Nov 13, 2007

Mainu your fault has to be in the optics of your machine, due to it printing fine, I doubt if nmblondie's machine prints OK, If it is a fault that appears on "received" faxs and copys/prints then usally it will be faulty cartridge or sometimes fuser

Mainu do your lines run the same direction as paper is fed or across it?

if it was to be across and not down, as i let myself assume, because acrossways lines would relate to paper drive/feed mechanism problem, i suspect you fault to be down the page meaning there is an obstruction in the light that shines on the original and is reflected back down. This fault is only known by me to be a mark or scratch on previously discussed scanner glass, or sometimes dirty/damaged optics.

I have a Ricoh Aficio 1013 that prints fine but copies are unclear and off

Problem Cause Solution Colored lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About this Machine . Copies appear dirty. Image density is too high. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . Copies appear dirty. Auto Image Density is not selected. On the control panel, select [Auto Density]. The reverse side of an original image is copied. Image density is too high. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . The reverse side of an original image is copied. Auto Image Density is not selected. On the control panel, select [Auto Density]. A shadow appears on copies if you use pasted originals. Image density is too high.
  • Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference .
  • Change the orientation of the original.
  • Put mending tape on the pasted part.
The same copy area is dirty whenever making copies. The exposure glass, scanning glass, or ADF is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . The same copy area is dirty whenever making copies.
  • The original that has already been printed is scanned.
  • Original Type is set to [Text / Photo], and an original with text and photographs that can hardly be distinguished from each other is loaded.
On the control panel, press [Generation Copy], and then begin copying. Copies are too light. Image density is too light. Adjust the image density settings. See "Adjusting Copy Image Density", Copy and Document Server Reference . Copies are too light. A light copy may result when you use damp or rough grain paper. Use recommended paper only and be sure its storage environment meets the recommended temperature and humidity conditions. For details about recommended paper and the proper way to store it, see "Recommended Paper Sizes and Types" and "Paper Storage", About This Machine . Parts of images are not copied. The original is not set correctly. Set originals correctly. See "Placing Originals", Copy and Document Server Reference . Parts of images are not copied. The correct paper size is not selected. Select the proper paper size. Parts of images are not copied. Even if you place originals in the ADF correctly, margin of a few millimeters on all four sides of the original might not be copied. Use "Create Margin" function to reduce the image of its original size.
For details about missing image area, see "Missing Image Area", Copy and Document Server Reference . images appear only partially. The paper is damp. Use paper that has been stored in the recommended temperature and humidity condition. For details about the proper way to store it, see "Paper Storage", About This Machine . Black lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . White lines appear. The exposure glass or scanning glass is dirty. Clean them. See "Maintaining Your Machine", About This Machine . White lines appear. The dustproof glass is dirty. Clean the dustproof glass. See "Cleaning the Dustproof Glass", About This Machine . Copies are blank. The original is not set correctly. When using the exposure glass, face the originals down. When using the ADF, face them up. A moir? pattern is produced on copies. Your original has a dot pattern image or many lines. Place the original on the exposure glass at a slight angle. Black spots appear on the copy of a photographic print. Because of high humidity, the photographic print has stuck to the exposure glass. Place the print on the exposure glass in either of the following ways:
  • Place an OHP transparency on the exposure glass, and then place the print on the OHP transparency.
  • Place the print on the exposure glass, and then place two or three sheets of white paper on it. Leave the ADF open when copying.
White stripes appear on the OHP. Fragments of paper are stuck to the OHP. Use a dry cloth to wipe any paper fragments off the back of the OHP. The image on the back side of duplex copies has mottled blank patches or is smudged. Missing patches and smudges are caused by moisture leaking from the paper.
  • Do not install the machine in areas that are susceptible to low temperatures.
  • Use paper that has been stored where temperature and humidity conditions meet the limitations we recommend. For details about the paper storage conditions we recommend, see "Paper Storage", About This Machine .
  • Install the Optional anti-humidity heater. For details about the anti-humidity heater, contact your service representative.

My copier machine is printing out black lines.

Hi, does stripes appears only on copies or also on printed images?

If only on copies that means that you have to clean the copy glass.

If on both, its probably drum unit that causes the problem. Usually the stripes are slim, and verry close to each other, like a sharp brush paint job.

How many copies do you have with these drum? check it on 123 button.

If the copie is on one side totally black and the toner isnt fixed on paper that means that you have to replace fixing film.

For service manual write me on [email protected].

Hope that helped!

Failure to print from computer in colour

I have a similiar issue that just started happening recently - the printer shows FULL inks but the PC thinks it has empty inks. I tried the * #, 123 reset hardware failures, but that didnt help. Printer run self diagnostics says all is fine....

I am using USB connections - and this has been fine for years, until now. Maybe a microsoft patch issue?

HP Photosmart C3180 prints a solid black line left side of paper ONLY when you COPY. When you print from computer, it prints just fine. It is only from COPY mode that the solid black line appears.Already...

Unfortunately, your C3180 printer needs some repairs done to it or you . A section of the printing arm that does the printing is faulty. This happened to me and apart from replacing the arm (at considerable cost) I purchased a new printer at a much cheaper cost. You can use your faulty printer for printing from the computer but not for copying or scanning. MG

Vertical black line in scan document not in copies through document feeder

Lift the lid and to the left of the main glass is a smaller glass; that is what scans during the feeding process. Make sure that it is completely clean; even a speck of dust can cause a line to appear. I took a lens wipe and cleaned mine and my line was gone.

Problem while copying

O.K. guys,

the problem is with the smaller glass on the left.
Lift the top and look at the small glass on the left, is there a dot, whiteout, dirt etc... on there? that is what's making your lines. clean with alcohol or mild cleanser.
