Instal heat pump

My HVAC system started leaking today - behind the filter (which was filthy) was a sheet of ice. I have a Versatec manufactured by WFI unit. Does this sound like a filter/had the unit on too high problem that once I clean up all the water and dry the wall that I can use the unit again or does it sound more internal to the unit? Thank you!!!!

There's only one way to find out. Yes, a dirty filter can cause a coil to freeze. Once frozen water drips off and misses the drain pan.

Clean the coil if possible if not call a tech, pour water down the drain or drizzle it on the face of the coil and see if it drains or overfills the drain pan, you should schedule a professional cleaning in any case.

SOURCE: Friedrich air conditioning - inside unit ice build up

Hi, Reduced air flow, low on freon or being continuously run during cooler weather such as at night. Some people turn their thermostat on 60 thinking that it will help get it cooler faster. They freeze up at night and don't get a chance to thaw during the day. It needs set no lower than 75 or so. The evaporator may be dirty. Don't know a lot about your particular unit but if the outside unit has the compressor and refrigerant lines running to it, The large refrigerant line should sweat all the way to the compressor if its fully charged. Please rate me if I have helped. Good luck kstfas

SOURCE: Wall ac unit keeps freezing up inside.

No! You will not likely find any service on a product which has very little value. Frosting will sometimes happen if the outside temperature is to low. The outside ambient temperature is directly related to the pressures inside the refrigerating system. The lower the outside temperature is the lower the pressures will be in the cooling end of the air conditioner. In mechanical refrigeration pressures and temperatures are directly related.

Do not run it on maximum cool and fan on low. Freezes up all the time this way.

SOURCE: condensation leaking out of unit

if it is the indoor unit leaking, make sure that all your drain lines are clear.... if you're talking about the outdoor unit leaking water in the heat cycle...that is normal.

Brand New 2 weeks old 4 ton Trane compressor leaks a lot of water onto pad

If the unit is running in cold weather than there is ice building up on the coils located outside. This is normal in that the unit is running in heat pump mode heating inside and cooling outside, After the unit detects the ice build up it briefly reverses the cycle heating the outside coils melting(defrosting) the ice which you observe as water on the pad.

The video gives you an example of the defrost cycle!

Experiencing low volume of hvac air through vents on my 97 pontiac transport. no problems with heat or ac air temp, just limited air flow. could a blend door problem restrict amount of air flow?

Wen was the last time you replaced the cabin filter? Open the glove box. In the far back you will see a plastic cover. Remove it and you will see the access door for the cabin filter. Remove the door and pull out the filters. There will be two of them. I'm going to bet they are filthy and possibly even have there own little Eco system growing on them. This is pretty common.

Have a new manufactured home and heat pump was installed today on my Interther furnace. I was not home at the time. No filter was put behind the finned panel at the top and the manual says it is a 16 X 20...

These have always been a problem. I would contact your hvac supplier and ask for a roll of 'hog hair' filter media. Most I;ve seen is green in color. It is cut to fit, but you can fasten it to the inside of the front panel with two-sided tape and or zip ties. Hope this is helpful.

I Have a doublewide, im wanting to know who i install freon and stop leak in my indoor central heat and air pump.

first you have to have a EPA certification too purchase, and to handle Refrigerant. in order to stop the leak first it must be located and in most cases soldered shut depending on the leaks location if the leak is in the tube sheet of the coils it my be better to replace the leaking coil. if the leak can be repaired the refrigerant must be removed from the system, leaving it in a vacuum then bring it up to atmospheric pressure (0 psi) using dry nitrogen. then the leak can be repaired, after leak has been repaired pressure test system at 120 psi for 20 min. watching gauges to see if pressure drops. If pressure holds, release nitrogen then evacuate system with vacuum pump. most manufactures require a 500 micron of less vacuum to ensure no moisture is in system then charge system according Manufactures Specification. charging and service ports are normally located at outdoor condensing unit where copper piping connects too condenser, charging manifolds are a necessary tool for this repair. I would highly recommend having a HVAC contractor preform this repair, amount of refrigerant that goes into the system is critical to performance of heat pump operation.

Our SRK40H-s1 keeps icing up,

Hi, if you are running this in cool when the icing occurs, there are several things that will cause this. #1, make sure the indoor fan is running up to full speed. #2, make sure that the indoor coil where the air comes in is clean and that the filter media is also clean and not clogged with dirt. The reason I asked if you were running it in cool when this happens is if this were a heat-pump and you were running it in heat, the ice would build up on the outdoor unit and you would have a defrost problem, so just forget that unless this is happening. If fan is running up to speed good and strong, the filter behind the cover on the indoor unit is clean and not clogged and the coil behind the indoor unit is clean, you will have a freon leak somewhere in the unit. Check what I have told you first. Use a ladder if you need to reach the indoor unit. Make sure all is clean and if the foam type filter is old and rotten, you can get some at a hardware store, like Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and so forth. If it continues to ice up, you do have a small freon leak and this will take a certified service tech to locate leak and recharge the system. Most leaks occur on these ductless splits at the freon lines where the lines screw together at the indoor coil to the outdoor unit. I have seen this happen many times as a A/C Refrigeration contractor. You do have a top of the line system I have to say, very little calls to make repairs on the Mitsubishi split system. Lets hope its just a coil or filter that is plugged up not letting air through the coil which will ice up the unit. Keep me posted and feel free to correct me if I was wrong about the way the unit is set up.Also, keep me posted on what you have found and if you have or have not solved the problem. Please get back to me.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Air conditioning unit

On a "Non Heat Pump" unit, icing of the pipes is not good. It is an indication that you either have a low freon level (Charge), low load, wrong superheat.
A low load usually means, in this case, something wrong with the air flow. Clogged filter, wrong fan speed, something blocking the return air grill, like a chair/ blanket, etc.
If low on charge, the evap (Indoor Coil) will ice up and the ice will then slowly creep along the pipe untill it gets to the outdoor unit. This is really no good. Air cannot go thru solid ice so naturally there is no cooling happening.
If a company replaces the outdoor unit (Condensing Unit), there is no warranty on the indoor unit. I do not know of any company that will repair an indoor coil (Evap). Just not smart money. They have to capture the freon, open the system, make the repair, ensure the correct level of freon is in the system, and most time, add a filter/ dryer for additional filtering and drying of the freon. With all that, no one is going to patch a leak on an old coil because if it leaks now, it's going to have another soon. You'll just be chasing leaks and spend money after money. Hope that makes sense. HVAC companys have to follow the EPA rules too. Leaving a system leaking above a certain percent of it's total charge is a major no-no. They will not do it.
Hope this helps clear up a few things and good luck.
