Is outside unit running? If it is not that could be the reason. If it is running then you could be low on Freon. Check to see if outside is running if it is put your hand over the fan if its warm or hot the compressor is running if it is cool then your compressor is not running. Check this out because your inside unit will run even if the outside is not running.

Until now this unit has never had the compressor run without the fan. Is the compressor running without the fan a problem? If so, what can I do to correct it?

Possibly a tstat issue. Run system until satisfied, once satisfied indoor fan shuts down compressor still runs remove tstat face plate and see if compressor shuts down. Another issue could be a sticking contactor for compressor. With a meter you could check at the contactor to see if you lose your 24volts for cooling but contactor remains pulled in.

My 97, 5.2 runs 200 without AC, if I turn on AC, it goes to 220. Replaced clutch fan, thermostat, water pump, and new cap. Backflushed block and radiator. No results. Why so hot? Only 92K on unit.

dodges run like that. if your worried put a 180 degree thermostat in. maybe even a 160 . wont hurt engine or fuel mileage . my 99 dodge ram 1500 sport runs fine with 160 degree one. hope it helped , good luck

That is pretty much normal. When the AC engages it's compressor it triggers the idle sensor to increase idle to compensate for the huge load that an AC unit puts on a vehicle. If your AC is producing cold air, approx. 40 degrees on high, then it should be ok. Power loss is all part of the program with AC. It takes much more noticeable power to run an AC unit on a vehicle, and especially a 4 cylinder. Ever see your house lights dim a bit when you turn on the Home AC central air? :.) Every item under your hood connected to your engine steals power from the engine. The AC is the king of all takers of power.

I have a new motorhome and the air conditioner only reduces the inside air temperature by 2 degrees on a hot day. e.g. outside air temp 26 degrees inside temp 29 degrees. After 2 hours of a/c running with...

Can you tell me what size/make of motorhome you have? Certainly doesn"t sound right to me, and I've been working on them for over 15yrs. Whether it's a 13,500 BTU or 15,000 BTU, it should be plenty as long as motorhome has any insulation at all. I assume you have central air from ceiling?
The manufacturer usually states that the AC unit will supply 20F below ambient.
Is compressor staying engaged all this time?

Engine Overheats when AC is on..

It sounds like your AC compressor bearings may be overheating causing excessive drag/loading on the engine. No easy way to check this unless you can take the serpentine belt off when the car won't start and see if it is really hard to turn the compressor shaft.
